The Force is Strong With This One
Has anyone else heard of this band? I have just discovered them and think they have such an amazing sound. They are from Iceland.

Yeah, they're DVD is great. It has footage from their tour of Iceland, with some great imagery of the scenery up there. Highly recommended.

Hi Approaching Infinity.

That must be the video I watched where I first heard of them. Having been to Iceland I thought it would be an interesting video (HEIMA - meaning 'home') to watch. Aren't they just an amazing sound to listen to and so different? The singers' voice is awesome (he sings in a made up language they call 'vonlenska').

After finishing their world tour, they went all around Iceland to play for free to all the residents of the small villages in some very strange places. Then they finished it off in Reykjavik.

The film doesn't do any justice to the truly stunning scenery that Iceland has though.

Yeah, I'm a fan since around 2006. I don't understand a word they sing but I love them. :)

I think that the best album is probably 'Agaetis byrjun', but I haven't heard the new one yet. I'm saving to buy it...

Most of the songs are sung in Icelandic, a couple are in the made up language. I first heard of them in 2003, but haven't listened to much of the new stuff. They definitely have a unique sound to them though.

Re: Sigur Rós

Ahh this band is amazing, really chilled out and typical of the groove from Iceland. It's one of the few bands I can listen to while reading, include Boards of Canada in that field too I suppose. Lots of good music out there...but a lot of the noisy stuff (which I still like) can put me off when i'm wanting to read.

p.s. Hi all, lovin the new forum ;D

Re: Sigur Rós

I recently discovered this band, some of their songs are real gems.

The last song in their Untitled album is one of my favourite pieces of music of all time. It's like a journey, from the beginning to the end, absolutely amazing! brings me to the verge of tears/goose-bumps If I actually LISTEN to it properly, concentrating on every detail and going along with the ride, (it's like 11 minutes long).

They got some really original stuff...I think the made up language was made for the Untitled album, and when you buy the CD and look for the lyrics page in the booklet, it's blank but with lines so you can write your own lyrics of what the song means to you!
