Storm in Cape Town - overhead explosion right near me!!

So it seems like the Earth Changes and Cosmic Transition have finally reached this side of Terra.

I was just out on my porch, having a smoke right after finishing up a batch ketocolate, when the rain, that's been around all day suddenly got more intense, then followed by tiny hailstones. Just as a called my dad out to see the hail on the porch, there was big flash followed almost immediately by an explosion. My dad says, "Oh the thunder?" Trying to explain the difference, now that there's actual thunder to be heard, but obviously, he just doesn't get it, and a few seconds later, a burst of more intense rain and much larger hail. The proof, pretty much, that this is an overhead explosion, was that I heard several car alarms from the same direction, which I doubt can be caused by thunder very easily at all. The rain and thunder has now stopped completely, just a few minutes later. The flash source was, of course, above the clouds, and behind the porch cover from where I was standing, though I could certainly see that it was radiant, where is lightning flashes are comparatively ambient. Another 10 minutes later and the skies are clearing up in some parts; it has been total overcast in every direction from my area all day.

And this isn't even the big cold front that has been predicted for tonight yet...

Maybe we begin to understand why there was sort of a confusion between thunder and lightning and "thunderbolts of Zeus" among the ancients?

Indeed, and perhaps even more so if or when they start being accompanied by arcing with the surface.

I experienced something very similar. The 28th there was quite a storm in Buenos Aires. I was out to but cigarettes, rain didn't yet start but it was really cloudy. I was walking back home with my 17 month girl when a flash and a loud crackling sound happened near us. I lifted her in my arms and ran like crazy to get home. Thought it was a lightning striking trees somewhere near, but couldnt find a thing about it in the news.

Just saw some pics of centreal Cape Town, hail everywhere, might snow according to news here, which I don't has happened since I have been alive, only in the mountains.

It's been getting colder here every year since 2000 at least, I used wear shorts in Winter here no problem.

I've lost count of the amount hail spouts over the last 24 hours, I don't think I've EVER see more than 2 or 3 max in that amount of time. And I'm not even near the mountains. Last year was the first time it snowed in all 9 provinces on one day (_http://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/News/First-time-ever-Snow-in-all-9-provinces-20120808). I'm almost betting we're gonna get all-out snow cover in the city within the next 6 months.

edit: And to top it all off, as I'm typing, there are at least 2 dozen birds happily chirping and feeding away in our front garden as though it's the middle of Spring.
