Straight up Cointelpro in my house!

My roommate received a phone call from a woman today, asking to speak with the youngest person in the house. The age group she was looking for was 18-23. She asked a slew of random survey questions that as my roommate suggested, were very odd. It was only when the Woman asked the question "Do you believe that Walmart is assisting Communist China spread their communist party movement? Do you agree or strongly agree?" (!!!!!) that he paused to process the whole phone dialog. It was at this point that my roommate said, "I think I have to go" and hung up. Usually we play with these type of people on the phone a bit, as I'm sure he was originally humoring her, however once he saw the slant in her agenda, he quickly stopped participating. Any thoughts? Or has anyone else received this call?!

Yup, I get some "random survey questions" telephone calls every now and then. They can be entertaining. Makes me think of one "survey" where they asked if there were any registered voters in the house? I said, "no". And they hung up on me.!.!.!

But seriously... I've had "surveys" where they did seem to ask questions of a personal nature. Almost like they are trying to confirm information they have. Methinks NOT to offer any information of my household. Maybe this "survey" issue be a thread in itself? How many here has had these strange telephone "surveys"?
It can be spooky sometimes...

Having caller ID on my phone I never pick up unless I know the number.
That takes care of all cranks.

I do the same....but still get survey calls all the time. I get fooled now and then by a prefix or area code that's within the area my family or friends live in.

As a rule, I'm rude: "We're doing a survey..."

Me: "No, don't call this number again." And I hang up.

The calls tend to be worse during local elections, or after something hinky is reported in the news that ignites the internet's curiosity. :knitting:

I got tired of them burning my minutes on my cell phone, which used to be a landline, so unless I'm really busy I like to mess with them by answering their questions with totally nonsensical random statements like "My goat's driving a tractor on the roof" "The garden gnome needs a haircut" "Santa Clause always eats his Brussels sprouts" ...stuff like that.
No matter what they say, just answer them with a crazy, unrelated statement in a completely deadpan, mechanical voice. It creeps them out...and it's FUNNY.

Works too...guess who's been taken off most of the "random survey" lists :P
