Went out this morning for a smoke about 4:30 am. Watching the sky as I usually do, I saw a bright, bright star, but noticed it was moving slowly North to South, so I thought "ah, a satellite"...except the only satellite I know that would be that bright is the ISS, and it travels west-ish to east-ish, not North to South.
Even stranger, after about 5 seconds, it faded.
Weird, right? About an hour and a half later, outside again, notice another one, this time travelling South to North. And again it fades after about 5 seconds.
I know that satellites travel around the Earth every 90 minutes or so, but to change direction like that?
Meteors? UFOs?
