Strange...meteor(s)?

Went out this morning for a smoke about 4:30 am. Watching the sky as I usually do, I saw a bright, bright star, but noticed it was moving slowly North to South, so I thought "ah, a satellite"...except the only satellite I know that would be that bright is the ISS, and it travels west-ish to east-ish, not North to South.

Even stranger, after about 5 seconds, it faded.

Weird, right? About an hour and a half later, outside again, notice another one, this time travelling South to North. And again it fades after about 5 seconds.

I know that satellites travel around the Earth every 90 minutes or so, but to change direction like that?

Meteors? UFOs?

It's difficult to say. There is also the possibility of planes. Sometimes their relative angle allows a reflection of sunlight when the sun is low.
