Strange shipment of Gold

Hello everyone,

I picked up this article (link below) about lots of Gold being shipped from USA to SA. I wonder why this movement is happening? With SA being one of the largest producers and exporters of Gold in the world; why would this flow of unprocessed Gold move back to SA?

Assuming that this data is accurate, it could be (like the article suggests) that they have excess refining capacity that could be used for generating coins/bars. Apparently many world refineries (like Perth) are working weekends to keep up with wholesaler demand - and they are falling behind. It could be that this is a sell-buy arrangement where the raw gold comes back as bullion ready to struck into coin.
