Moderators, would you consider coding the forum so that when a topic is responded to it jumps
to the top of the listings on the left side of the main SOTT's page?

I like this function on other forum boards and as it helps to keep older topics alive. In a way
it also keeps the most popular topics in front of everyone.

Thanks,
Joshua

Moderators, have you ever considered adding a chat facility, even if it is not active the whole time? (Moderated and accesed by signing-in, of course).

how about buttons to format text?
it's kinda cumbersome to have to type the BBCodes by hand every time you wanna bold or quote something

The following is from the forum author's website which should answer some of the questions here:

Some features that I have so far chosen not to implement are: private messaging, file attachments, polls, linking to off-site avatars, advanced text formatting controls, subforums etc etc. The jury is still out on some of these features, but don't expect them to pop up anytime soon. It should however be noted that most, if not all of these features have been realised in the form of third-party mods.

It does answer why they didn't come with the forum software, but I think moderators can implement any of those features if they choose to, like using those third-party mods. I myself wouldn't mind the chatroom, but I'm not sure about the practical usefulness of that feature in terms of enhancing the networking. It might certainly be fun though to have live discussions with a group of forum members. But also there's the potential for noise/disruptors, although the necessity to login and the existance of moderators would help. However, there's also the danger that the chatroom would need a lot of moderation and constant monitoring to remove disruptors, and this would take away energy from the forum itself just to maintain the chatroom civil etc. It might be fun to try it though and see if chatroom works out, and remove the feature if it becomes unmanageable. I'm kinda on the fence about the usefulness of it though.

True, but when I looked at the documentation for PunBB developers a while ago, I found it to be very light, so one would also have to figure out the codebase to understand how to implement a certain feature.
