These videos may be helpful to those interested in the ideas of Nietzsche and his views on pain and suffering. They were put together by the "academy of ideas" a new channel on youtube that condenses down philosophers' works and presents them in lectures each about 10 mins give or take a few. They have 31 vids up at the moment discussing the presocratics, William James, and collectives vs individuals among other topics. They are unique IMHO in the way that each lecture covers a different view quickly while giving each proper respect.

Thanks ajseph 21. Found the Active vs. Passive Nihilism interesting, as well as the pleasure/pain idea.

Thanks ajseph. There is an interesting one about Heraclitus: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9CLktqAj9U.

There are many connections that can be made with the Work and Gurdjieff.

For example, the part about dry x wet souls, being the dry the "wisest and best". Dry souls being those that cultivate and follow reason and regarding the wet souls it is mentioned that "a man when he is drunk stumbles and is led by a beardless boy, not knowing wither he goes, for his soul is wet", which could indicate those little I's prompted by unconscious emotions and ingrained programs.

Also the idea that the Logos is common and that it is objective knowledge, while most men live in their tunnel of reality, "as if they had a private understanding of their own", are pretty close to Gurdjieff's ideas of objective x subjective and that Knowledge is available to those that search for it.

The concept that "war is the father and king of all" as that of opposing forces that lead to balance could be seen in the perspective of fusion or more broadly in the sense that the Cs mention that the universe is about balance.

The idea of inner contemplation is also there, "I searched myself".

It makes a lot of sense that, as Laura points outs, Gurdjieff has drawn from the stoics and them from Heraclitus.
