I really enjoyed this film adaptation of “Pentamerone”- a collection of 17th century Italian fairy tales believed to have inspired the later works of the Grimm brothers. This movie features 3 of those stories which are marginally intertwined and they all share a commentary on a human flaw.
Pretty dark, bordering on morbid ( it reminded me of Gormenghast Trilogy) and in the same time aesthetically very appealing- the sets, the costumes, the imagery, music everything was done beautifully. The stories are engaging and escalate quickly although the ending was somewhat anticlimactic.
All in all 8 out of 10 stars.
