Thank you SOTT

The Living Force
Birthday greetings this morning! :) It just happens that this is the first morning I've had to turn the computer on since Thursday evening as I have been scrambling to prepare for the recent blizzard in the Mid-Atlantic area near Washington D.C., keep things going during it, and clean up after. This reminds me of my childhood in Michigan!!! Like so much of the Northern Hemisphere this Winter has brought record breaking cold and snow to our area also. Tomorrow another 6-8 inches of snow is sure to arrive. That will be the 4th snowstorm (2 major and 2 minor storms) in 11 days! The horses do not seem to mind but those of us shorter and closer to the ground are a bit weary of slogging through it! About 24 to 30 inches of heavy wet snow fell in my area.
Well, I don't want to take up any more space whining about the weather--we have been blessed with lots of supplies and no loss of power. Schools are closed today of course so I have some time to catch up with the reading on the forum and will post some more later. Take care.

While not quite as bad as your area, we in SW PA got hit also and are expecting another round tomorrow. Afterwhich, there are to be gusty winds. The better to knock down the already snow-laden trees and power lines! I read in the local paper that some meteorologist commented that this recent storm was the first of its kind that he'd ever seen, usually it doesn't snow that heavily for such an extended period of time. Makes one wonder about "manufactured" weather again...

Happy Birthday, Shelley!

Up here in the Great White North, we've been having a fairly mild winter compared to you folks South of the Border! Mind you, we've had snow on the ground now since early October! But no great snowstorms like you're having.

Glad it is only causing inconvenience and not out-right problems!

I just wanted to say that "manufactured" weather has been on my mind pretty much non stop because we are about 6 days from the winter Olympics here and today it was 16 Celsius.

It has been unusually warm this winter, we only had one snow storm in the beginning of the winter but it melted away very quick. Lot of rain, early in the winter but during the past week or 2 it's been very good weather, bright & sunny.

I keep wondering if we're going to get some huge snow storm like right before the Olympics or something..

Well, there are still lots of people who've been without power since Friday night because of the weekend storm. There have been reported deaths from fumes/fires where people were using alternate heating sources like generators and kerosene heaters. The National Guard has been sent in as we are in a state of emergency.

And now ANOTHER storm is in progress, just heard that the Wash. D.C. area could get another two feet! Just seems a little bit funny that the West Coast was hammered with rain, flooding and mudslides recently, now the opposite end of the country is getting hammered with snow storms.

Maybe they can't figure out which way to point the dial...

Re: Thank you SOTT for the

Happy Birthday shellycheval! This weather is like snow on top of snow, I've had an extended weekend so far.

Speaking of the weather, it's unusually warm in my home country (Vietnam) too. It's winter time but the weather is almost like summer.

I keep thinking about how the Cs said 4D battles manifest in 3D as unusual weather. Hmm...

Thank you all for the BD greetings!
The weather is definitely the news in this area again today--more blizzard warnings for this afternoon--snow on top of ice on top of snow!!! We have had school canceled all week in the greater Washington D.C. area, but I haven't really had a chance to sit around and enjoy it with a little reading. I was outside for nine hours Sunday removing snow from my 800 foot driveway and helping the neighbors with the one mile long private road we live on--no snow removal from the county here! But we like our privacy and many of us have farm tractors with buckets and blades and drive trucks. The good news is I am getting in great shape with all this shoveling and walking in deep snow. All the exercise combined with my improved diet of the last four months is really paying off--I'm just so tired after working outside in the cold that it is hard to gin up the energy to do anything in the house. Ah well--this too shall pass

I am hoping to get caught up on some email before the power goes out again, so I'd better go, I too have been wondering about "manufactured weather" What would be the point in causing these intense winter storms? It is costing businesses a lot of money so there is no profit motive that I can see. Is it just to cause misery and suffering, or is it weather experimentation that has gotten out of control?

Me too--despite the cold the battle must be "heating" up considering the intensity of the weather everywhere lately.
Stay safe and warm. Laters,

Wishing you a belated Happy Birthday - have been slow at catching up with all the threads in the Forum! BTW - mine was Monday and I could not tell from the threads if we share a birthday or if yours was last week..

Fortunately I did not have to deal with snow - until today that is - Dallas got 12.5 inches - which is paltry I know compared to DC. Hope you get a break in the snowfall soon - I am sure it must be getting a bit old!
Aleana

My BD was Monday. Thank you for the good wishes Aleana. 12 inches of snow in Dallas is no small thing--snow in the deep South is a serious safety and health risk as people there do not usually have to cultivate the necessary coping strategies and truly suffer. Take care and watch out others on the road. We are literally snowed in at the moment and hoped to be able to get out (over 1 mile to the nearest plowed/paved road) on this coming Monday--more snow is predicted for Monday night. I hope you had a lovely Birthday and good year.

Shellycheval- I hope you had a Happy Birthday.
I live in the Northeast PA. We got 6 inches of snow on 2/6 and 17.8 inches of snow on Wednesday. The forcast is for snow on Monday night. We will be digging out for a long time.

Happy belated birthday shellycheval and aleana! Today, for the first winter ever, we are having problems from ice dams, the problem created by accumulated snow on the roof. This has caused the ceiling by the kitchen window to start leaking. Hubby called a roofing company and I guess we're on a waiting list as they did not make it here today. He did put up the extension ladder and climbed up to knock some of the snow, ice, and icicles off. After dripping all day, the drips finally stopped, so maybe the damage won't be too bad. Of course, there's a $500 deductible on the home owners insurance, so it's not a cheap fix no matter what. I remember looking at the roof and seeing it completely covered and thinking that was a good sign that the house was well insulated. Perhaps some escaping heat would have been better!

The roads are clear but a lot of snow piled up everywhere. Still haven't reached levels that I saw in Davis, WV, near Canaan Valley back in the early 80's, where I went skiing back in the day. There is a 70% chance of snow on Monday and every day in the 10-day forecast is either snow, snow flurries, or snow showers (30% up to 60% chance) except for next Friday with mostly cloudy being the prediction. I can only hope more of the roof doesn't start leaking. It's currently 15 degrees with temps moving up to low to upper 20's hitting low 30's Fri thru Sat. I live in central Ohio btw.

I believe Laura indicated in another thread that undersea volcano activity was warming the ocean and causing evaporation which is contributing to the excessive rain and snow. Of course the REAL reason for continued snowy, cold weather:

"On Groundhog Day 2010, Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow—and six more weeks of winter, according to tradition!" :P
