David Fincher is making a remake of the movie.
Why oh why ?

Yup, that's what I meant when I said Hollywood is remaking it. I'm not sure why exactly. For some reason people in US feel like they should have some sort of trade mark of their own on foreign movies?

Psychopaths are not creative, & have no imagination. Why create when they can just remake something a little bit and call it their own? The money makers in Hollywood also don't like to take 'risks' on anything new, hence the endless remakes and retreads. They want 'a sure thing' to make big money at the box office.

I watched part 2, "The Girl Who Played with Fire," and found it to be a more conventional story. She's framed for murder, has to hide out, and seeks revenge -- there's even a super-henchman that would've been precisely at home in a James Bond movie (Odd Job, Jaws, etc.). Lots more psychopaths, but not that much more insight, I thought.

Part 3 "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest" (interesting title) is due for US DVD release in January.

Just watched Swedish version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Män som hatar Kvinnor. Intriguing film for all of the reasons listed in this thread. Great whodunit. Excellent portrayal of the "successful" psychopaths... those with the power to conceal their acts for decades.

I just read all three books, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest by Steig Larsson a couple of weeks ago. I have not seen the movies yet but am very curious about the new 'remake' with Rooney Mara who plays Lizbeth Salander. The books are simply fantastic. As I was reading the novels, it didn't feel like I was reading fiction. Later when I looked up Larsson on Wikipedia I found a statement to the effect that everything that happened in the books has happened to someone in Sweden at one time or another. The info about Larsson on Wikipedia states that he had planned to write 10 books to complete the series. His death at age 50 seemed sudden and unusual. Incidentally he grew up in the same town (Umea, Sweden) as my grandfather who also died of a heart attack at age 50.

I just saw yesterday The Girl with a dragon tattoo, the Sweden | Denmark | Germany | Norway version, the first one (2009). I think it is a very good movie, about psychopaths. A good thriller. But there is a BUT in this movie, and it is the end, the last scene. I don't understand this final. And this final is a non-sense, for me. Although I think is a very well made film, much much more of the majority of american Hollywood movies.

One thing I find rather fascinating/irritating is how the title has been altered to something completely different in the subtitled version, as well as the american remake. The original title of the book and the swedish movie is called Men who hate women, which has a far bigger relevance than the americanized one.

I like it, an incredible movie experience :P

My favorite character is the woman with the dragon tatto of course. She has such a character ;)

Me too. I love this character. Talking about anger: she uses her anger very intelligently. If more women knew how to use anger instead of keeping anger inside....
