The Honey Boo-boo trainwreck

Are these people related to Alex Jones?

Well, it would certainly explain the yelling and screaming and gun fascination. The anthem down there, and I swear if I NEVER hear this song again as long as I live it would be too soon, is the following. It is played and yelled at every bbq,
keg party, deer skinning event ,and heck even children's parties. There is a huge aversion to anything "citified" and anyone that is educated is highly suspicious.

The preacher man says it’s the end of time
And the Mississippi River she’s a goin’ dry
The interest is up and the Stock Markets down
And you only get muggedIf you go down town
I live back in the woods, you seeA woman and the kids, and the dogs and me
I got a shotgun rifle and a 4-wheel drive
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

I can plow a field all day long
I can catch catfish from dusk till dawn
We make our own whiskey and our own smoke too
Ain’t too many things these ole boys can’t do
We grow good ole tomatoes and homemade wine
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

Because you can’t starve us out
And you cant makes us run
Cuz we're them old boys raised on shotgun
And we say grace and we say Ma’am
And if you ain’t from the south we don’t give a damn

We came from the West Virginia coalmines
And the Rocky Mountains and the and the western skies
And we can skin a buck; we can run a trout line
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

I had a good friend in New York City
He never called me by my name, just hillbilly
My grandpa taught me how to live off the land
And his taught him to be a businessman
He used to send me pictures of the Broadway nights
And I’d send him some homemade wine
But he was killed by a man with a switchblade knife
For 43 dollars my friend lost his life
Id love to spit some beechnut in that dudes eyes
And shoot him with my old 45

Cause a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

Cause you can’t starve us out and you can’t make us run
Cuz we're them old boys raised on shotgun
And we say grace and we say Ma’am
And if you ain’t from the southt we don’t give a damn

We’re from North California and south Alabam
And little towns all around this land
And we can skin a buck; we can run a trot-line
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

If you want a better idea of the mentality, here is an episode of Honey Boo Boo and family attending the annual Redneck Games in Dublin Georgia. Having had the embarrassing displeasure of having to attended this event more than once, I can say that the video is tame but accurate. If you have the stomach for it here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4MDNR_a_eU

I don't think they are "popular" strictly speaking. The majority of people watching it are shocked, outraged, or can't fathom why this is being shown. And yet, this gives the viewers an opportunity to feel better about themselves by comparison, which may explain a certain appeal. The paradox with this show and similar personalities such as Snooki and the Kar-"trash"-ians (who are made to appeal to a higher income bracket in the same exact way), is that they are laughingstock and total screw-ups. The most common comment to yet another piece of news about them is, "why are we reading about this? who cares?" But even when we say their names just to pray for them to go away, they collect royalties and laugh all the way to the bank. It's the darnedest thing.

Bang on. An old coworker of mine, who is quite the liberal intellectual, fan of microbreweries and CBC news-talk, etc. would not stop talking about that show. For the longest time he couldn't believe diet and literacy was so poor in some enclaves of the USA, where the poverty was so bad. But now he believes it. So I definitely think it has a voyeuristic appeal, especially to those outside that culture.

When I lived in America, I remember a little kid told me how to know when pasta was done by throwing it to a ceiling - I was surprised that she started throwing food around!
Now I cannot believe that the mother is doing in the same thing in this video

It is very shocking to know that TV shows like this is normal nowadays. It is making me sick by watching it ... and sad

That's a trick I was taught when little also. It's a pretty simple and effective technique so I'm not surprised the meme is widespread. As for throwing food around, well, children have a natural inclination to play-mimic adults, so I wasn't surprised the daughter took a couple more shots at it. But then again she is encouraged to be fun and entertaining, so that was probably a factor.

Also, feeding a whole family on $80 a week? Really, Misses television celebrity?

Funny, I had watched this clip earlier- "skettti" , butter, and ketchup- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KswWfq2drCM

The sad part of this is that is pretty standard down there. I grew up eating coke and doughnuts for breakfast most everyday. My Nana taught me that doughnuts were healthy- they had flour, eggs, and milk in them. Vegetables did not exist most times. Soda and sweet tea were food groups, for the most part. :scared:

I feel sorry for the butter.. Not to mention the poor kid. Man, I'm counting down the days til the sky lights up!

Me too..And I wasn't sure where else I could share these pictures, I actually took them to post here a few nights ago...

The first picture got my attention as my wishful thinking got to me in hoping that there might actually be a good message - as I failed to notice the little line 'Keep streaming America' in the upper right corner - but the second picture shows the north side of the newsstand on Broadway.

So with shows like this Honey Boo Boo, The Kardashians, etc...they want people to watch more and more and more...and it actually works.
