Received this book (volume I) a few weeks ago and started to sift through it today. It was mentioned by Laura as referenced and thought to check it out. The book deals with many different origins of words, names and even letters as well as the many symbols of old. So far, very interesting, particularity as a reference book, yet have much to read. The book, although not printed within this copy, seems to have been first published in 1912.

It can be viewed here _http://www.amazon.ca/Lost-Language-Symbolism-Harold-Bayley/dp/0486447871/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1354437529&sr=8-1

It does look interesting. Thank you for the pdf link - it is a bit expensive on Amazon and there is no library within miles that has it. I usually try interlibrary loans for difficult to find books, but that can take forever!!
