Hello everyone :)
I've found an old Sott-article pointing to this video. No, the article is new but the video is old. Sorry :P http://www.sott.net/articles/show/242493-Fascinating-Simple-Mathematics-Think-for-yourself-Arithmetic-Population-and-Energy-Dr-Albert-A-Bartlett When I discovered it on you tube myself, I wasn't aware that it has allready been brought up on the Technology & Science section on Sott. On YouTube it reads: "4 million views for an old codger giving a lecture about arithmetic?? What's going on? You'll just have to watch to see what's so damn amazing about what he (Albert Bartlett) has to say".
It's Dr. Albert Bartlett actually. When I discoverd it on you tube two weeks ago I thought: Mathematics, yak! That's no language I can comprehend. So I ignored it because of these prejudices. It's because I'm afraid of mathematics. In school I wasn't good at it and thought I would be stupid. However, when I discovered this article, I gave it a try. And guess what?
It wasn't difficult at all to understand this exponential function he is talking about. In fact, it's scary to realize that allmost every human being on this planet misses the obvious. He says:"The Greatest Shortcoming of the Human Race is our Inability to Understand The Exponential Function," and he's right! Unlimited growth versus limited resources. The exponential growth of human kind increases the demands and needs, but there is limited space and supply on this limited planet. Isn't that an exponentially increasing threat? So many people rely on the media and what the authorities have decided in 'our best interests', but they seem to lack a proper understanding also. As the jedimaster from the first Star Wars movie Obi-Wan uses to say: "Who's more foolish, the fool or the fool who follows him?" So It's the overreliance of the authoritarians that makes them mindless lemmings! Do you remember that famous old computer game called Lemmings, where you have to intervene, unless you want them plunge into ruin? Understanding the exponential function is vital for our survival. So the message is quite clear: You just need to think about it yourself and stop trusting the authorities just because they are highly decorated. In my case I must stop trusting my inner math teacher, telling me that I'm stupid. Or as Dr. Bartlett (Am I a little obsessed with titles here???) puts it: "We can't let others do the thinking for us" As above so below. This man even refers to the microcosm!
How long have I been waiting for an authority to draw that line: the state of the world resembles the state of an organism that is suffering from cancer. Like cancer cells our modern society also worships growth. It's fascinating how life in cells resembles human life. When someone looks through the microscope watching the activities of the microcosm, watching a healthy cell-cluster, there is one thing that strikes me most: life is about honest work within an honest team and every individual works for a common goal: to keep the organism alive and to evolve as a whole. But if there is a psychopathic cell that hates being just, lets say a liver cell, hates being just part of this world, that wants to rule the world, rule the organism, that wants to become the one and only brain cell, it starts to gain power, to grow and grow like a greedy capitalist, manipulating other individuals, altering its environment without understanding its vital needs and serving none other but its own selfish goal: economic growth for the sake of self. Its the mutiny of cells like spreading cancer. How intelligent can such an organism be, if its ruled by one selfish braincell? Survival of the fittest? Apply this to selfish cancer cells! It's not how the organism is going to work. It's how the illness works. This planet is ruled by selfish cancer cells! Why do we let them? The answer is simple: "The Greatest Shortcoming of the Human Race is our Inability to Understand The Exponential Function," as Dr. Albert A. Bartlett points out.
EDIT: added a few things, to make my post a little clearer :P
second EDIT: corrected the first sentence, sorry.
third EDIT: "back then" wasn't the appropirate word, since it were two weeks actually.
