Cats randomly adopting humans:
Sometimes cats are just visiting. There was this one cat that lived at a friend of mine's apartment building that nobody owned. Rather it owned everybody (my friend went around the neighborhood trying to find its home). The cat would make the rounds stay at one apt for a day or two and move to the next one and so one. I suspect it had been left by somebody that left after college and had run off during the chaos of moving. Last I heard the cat had *mostly* moved in with a newer family that had a little girl. Still made the rounds ... just started sleeping at that one apt.
