Today thousands of people have gathered in Çanakkale (Gallipoli). This protest is for saving Mount Ida, known as Phrygian Ida in Classical times. Mount Ida in Phrygia is sacred to another aspect of the Great Goddess as Cybele, the Mother Goddess.

The protest is against the government giving mining rights to foreign companies to dig for gold and other minerals. The meeting started with a protest song of an Alewi poet and singer of 16th century Anatolia. The song goes like this : Come all souls let us be one (united), Let's war with our swords, To restore the rights of the poor, Enough to being slaves to people (who are the subjects of God) Let this exploitation end.

Choosing Gallipoli is meaningful as it stands for the war of a nation against the imperialists and today this war is against globalism, the new version of imperialism, represented by those in power right now. The people want the whole area to be declared a national park.

Another song from the protest:

I was in deep sleep
I woke up sweating
They are shooting that 16 year old on the street
Another unsolved murder

If you say you are a human being
Then you must do something
We must do something

This song was written for the staged undeclared civil war which led to the junta regime in 1980 by the generals the cia called "our boys".
