The sheep are tearing at scraps, biting one another for the smallest insignificant morsel. The shepherds are gloating as they herd the flock this way and that, prodding, taking great pleasure in the shearing branding and butchering. The shepherds' employers are salivating over the grand feast they are so sure will come. But... while it seems the majority of sheep will be slaughtered unwittingly, a few of them have distanced themselves from the flock, quietly going about the business of waking up from the lotus-induced slumber perpetrated by the shepherds. Outwardly, these sheep appear to be sheep. They speak the same as everyone else, appear to live similar lives too. Inwardly, however, they are no longer sheep. They have become sheep that have learned that they can be much more than sheep, much more than a food source. Some of them have even turned invisible to the shepherds simply because they have become distasteful.
