The Wall

I watched this movie over the holiday and it is a must see! So gorgeously filmed and the content is riveting.

"Martina Gedeck, star of the Academy Award®-winning film The Lives Of Others, brings a vivid intensity to this mysterious and riveting tale of survival set in a spectacularly beautiful Austrian mountain landscape. In a tour-de-force performance, Gedeck stars as an unnamed character who suddenly finds herself cut off from all human contact when an invisible, unyielding wall inexplicably surrounds the countryside where she is vacationing. Accompanied by her loyal dog Lynx, she becomes immersed in a world untouched by civilization and ruled by the laws of nature. As she grapples with her bizarre circumstances, she begins an inward journey of spiritual growth and transcendence. Based on Marlen Haushofer’s eponymous classic novel, The Wall is a gorgeous, mesmerizing adventure film that raises profound questions about humanity, solitude, and our relationship to the natural world."

I watched this a few weeks ago. It is a beautiful, thoughtful movie. It can be 'read' in many ways. For me it showed the desperate fight for survival that might follow (the alternatives being suicide or insanity) the total destruction of a human being's interpretation of reality. FWIW I think this is a movie worth watching.

Edit: this movie is available on _mubi.com. For £23 a year you get access to all their indie, alternative, non-western, and cult movies. Updated regularly.

I watched this movie about a week ago. Almost passed up watching it because I confused it with the movie, Pink Floyd The Wall when a family member mentioned watching it one day. Wasn't really feeling up to watching the Pink Floyd movie at the time.

Found out on wikipedia the movie is based on the book, Die Wand by Austrian writer Marlen Haushofer. Movie is filmed on location in the Austrian Alps and the scenery is pretty breathtaking. Found it to also be a bit sci-fi. I A couple of the scenes that depict what is happening outside the invisible wall, had me thinking of what I'd read in a few of the C's sessions about being frozen in a time warp or similarly, a well of space/time lock.

Anyway, also think it is a movie worth watching.
