Truck reportedly drives into people on Stockholm street, police say several injured

A truck has driven into people on a street in central Stockholm, according to witnesses cited by Aftonbladet newspaper. Injuries have been reported, according to police.
“I saw hundreds of people run, they ran for their lives,” a witness by the name of Anna told the newspaper, adding that she also fled the scene.

"A vehicle has injured people on Drottningatan," police spokeswoman Towe Hagg told Reuters.

The area has been cordoned off by police, a witness told Reuters.

Police have not confirmed any deaths in the incident, but say they have received information that people are injured.

Swedish police were alerted at 2:53pm local time, and officers are currently at the scene, according to SVT.

An AFP report said the vehicle used was a van, rather than a truck.

A witness by the name of Dimitris told Aftonbladet that he saw at least two people run over by the vehicle.

Aftonbladet newspaper has a live video from the scene.

At least two people have been killed and many injured after a truck drove into pedestrians on a Stockholm street, police confirmed. Authorities say they are treating the incident as a possible terrorist attack.

“I saw hundreds of people run, they ran for their lives,” a witness by the name of Anna told the newspaper, adding that she also fled the scene.

"A vehicle has injured people on Drottningatan," police spokeswoman Towe Hagg told Reuters.

Police have confirmed that two people have been killed and many injured.

A reporter for Sveriges Radio says he has seen at least three dead people. Public service radio EKOT has also reported that three people were killed in the incident.

A worker at Åhlens department store said the truck drove into the store’s perfume department. He said an alarm went off inside the store and everyone was asked to leave the building, SVT reported.

A photo posted online shows the truck after it crashed into Åhlens department store, with the caption stating that the vehicle came from a direction in which trucks are not allowed.

Press TV article:

At least two people have lost their lives after a truck drove into a department store in the central part of the Swedish capital of Stockholm, police say, with authorities treating the incident as a terror attack.

Swedish intelligence agency said on Friday that they considered the crash as an attack.

The agency said "a large number" had been injured in the attack.

Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven also said everything indicates that the truck crashing into the department store is "a terror attack."

Swedish state radio, however, put the death toll at three.

Swedish broadcaster SVT also reported that shots have been fired.

The Swedish news agency TT said many people have been rushed away in ambulances and live television footage showed smoke rising out from the department store that the truck smashed into.

Swedish police said they had received phone calls about a vehicle driver injuring people on the central street of Drottninggatan in Stockholm.

Swedish foreign minister Margot Wallström has called on the UN Security Council to reach a resolution on Syria following Donald Trump's decision to launch missile strikes in response to a chemical attack.

The US president ordered his forces to launch a missile strike on a Syrian air base in the early hours of Friday in response to a suspected chemical attack by the Syrian regime.

Wallström condemned the chemical attack, but urged the UN Security Council, of which Sweden is a non-permanent member, to seek a diplomatic solution to the conflict.

"The chemical attack against civilians in Syria is despicable. Under Swedish leadership, together with nine other countries on the security council, we tried to reach agreement on a resolution on a serious investigation of this atrocity to hold those responsible to acocunt. We regret that a consensus was not reached between the permanent members. We are ready to continue the work," said Wallström in a written statement.

"It is unclear whether the missile attack last night is the new American policy. It is important that there is also an international legal basis for action. Last night's missile attack also raises questions about how this could be compatible with international law. The issue must therefore return to the security council, which must take responsibility to reach a lasting political solution. There is already too much military power in Syria. It is high time that the Syrian people get to decide their own future," she said.

Sputnik's breaking news: Swedish Police Make an Arrest in Truck Terror Attack

According to a report from the Aftonbladet, the still-unnamed man had some light injuries when he was taken into custody.
"One person has been arrested who may be connected with the incident," police said in a statement.

The police have confirmed that at least four people were killed in the attack. There were also at least 15 people wounded, nine of them seriously, after a hijacked beer truck was driven through a crowd in the center of town. The truck stopped after crashing into a department store.

"Sweden has been attacked. Everything points to the fact that this is a terrorist attack," Prime Minister Stefan Lofven told reporters.

Following the attack, police released a photo of the man believed to have carried it out.

“I went to the main street when a big truck came out of nowhere. I could not see if anyone was driving it but it got out of control,” a witness told Sky News. “I saw at least two being run over. I ran as fast as I could from there."

Swedish police have urged people to stay away from the area.

Subway service has now been cleared to restart, but it will not be stopping at the two stations closest to where the attack took place, the public transport authority has announced.

Thought this was rather telling:

18:05: The press conference has now concluded. The head of Sweden's security police, Anders Thorngren, said they had prepared for a similar incident. "Earlier this week we rehearsed a similar scenario. Säpo focuses on the intelligence work and who could behind this," he said.

While the identity of the attacker or attackers has not been confirmed, Säpo named terror attacks by lone wolves as one of the main threats to Sweden in its annual report published earlier this year.

Where have we seen that before?

Some update from RT:

Stockholm truck attack suspect confirmed 39yo Uzbek national – police

The arrested suspect in the Stockholm truck attack comes from Uzbekistan and is 39 years old, investigators said at a press conference. He was described as “a marginal character,” previously named in “security information” but not under any recent investigation.
Officials did not provide any further information on the suspect’s identity or how he got into the country.

They neither confirmed nor dismissed reports of an explosive device found in the truck at the scene, but said that some sort of “technical device that should not be there” was uncovered from the driver’s seat. Investigators are not yet able to determine the nature of the device.

The Stockholm attack bears “clear similarities” to the March 22 Westminster attack in London, officials said at the press conference.

Officials did not comment on reports of the suspect’s alleged links to Islamic State, but stated that the investigation team is screening phones and other electronic devices in his possession to check for possible links and potential accomplices. The officials did not make any comments on the matter, but stressed that they were in an “intensive part of investigation.”

Update - RT:

Sweden terrorist attack suspect was rejected refugee, showed IS sympathies – police

The main suspect in the deadly Stockholm truck rampage is a rejected asylum-seeker and an Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) sympathizer, according to investigators. A second suspect in the case has also been arrested.
As the investigation of the terrorist attack unfolds, Swedish police revealed new details to the press on Sunday.

The main suspect in the truck rampage, identified as a 39-year-old man from Uzbekistan, turned out to be a rejected asylum-seeker who “applied for a permanent residency permit in 2014,” Police Chief Jonas Hysing told reporters.

“The Migration Agency rejected it in June 2016 and also decided that he was to be expelled,” Hysing added.

“In December 2016, he was informed by the Migration Agency that he had four weeks to leave the country.”

The suspect ignored the notification and his case was transferred to the police to execute the deportation order, but the man “went underground.”

Apart from that, the suspect expressed radical ideas and “showed sympathies for extremist organizations, among them Islamic State,” Hysing added.

The police made around 500 interviews and gathered a large amount of evidence and numerous eyewitness reports, according to police official Jan Evensson.

All four victims of the attack have been identified.

The investigation led to the arrest of another suspect in the case, Helga Hullmann, a judge at the Stockholm District Court, told Reuters.

“Police have arrested a person and we have appointed a public defender,” Reuters quoted the judge as saying.

On Saturday, the investigation team stated that uncovering potential terrorist links and finding possible accomplices of the main suspect was a top priority.

The assault took place in Drottninggatan, one of the city’s main pedestrian areas, on Friday, killing four and injuring over a dozen people.

The truck ploughed through crowds of people in the busy shopping street before crashing into a department store and catching fire.

The main suspect, who was allegedly driving the truck, managed to flee the scene, but was detained and subsequently arrested.

This is almost laughable except it isn't:

‘Ban Cars to Stop Terror’ Says Sweden’s Best-Selling Newspaper After Stockholm Attack

Cars and other vehicles “have turned into deadly weapons”, and should be banished from cities to stop attacks like the one in Stockholm from happening in future, according to Aftonbladet editorialist Eva Franchell.

Crackdowns on immigration or extremist ideology are not the way forward when it comes to terror prevention, according to the veteran journalist, writing after Friday’s terror attack in Stockholm left four people dead.

Instead, it is cars — which she calls “effective murder machines” — that Franchell says “must simply be removed from city centres and places where people gather, if people are to be protected in future”.

Vehicles are “easy to steal, and so nothing has been able to stop their advance”, writes Ms. Franchell.

“It just isn’t reasonable that a big truck can be driven right into one of Stockholm’s busiest streets on a Friday afternoon right before Easter.”

Noting how it is a popular destination for tourists, Franchell says the city centre must be a “safe environment” for visitors to enjoy. She described it as “remarkable” that it is possible to drive around the Swedish capital’s medieval old town.

Outlining her vision for a car-free Stockholm, she argues: “Most problems with regards to mobility and public transport can be solved, and deliveries to shops and restaurants could take place at times when people aren’t out on the streets.”

“Vehicles have been allowed to dominate our cities for decades and it’s the people who need space. It’s vital now that cars be regulated,”
the piece concludes.

The idea of reducing the number of cars in Swedish cities was backed last month by Sweden’s environment minister, who argued that driving is a gender equality issue as well as a matter of shrinking the nation’s carbon emissions.

“Cars are driven largely by men so by giving a lot of space to cars; we’re giving a lot of space to men — at the expense of women,” Karolina Skog explained.

That last line . . . gag me w/ a spoon! And anyway - cars don't kill people - people kill people!!!

I guess since the newer modes of street, false flag terror have switched from guns to knives & cars/vehicles (sometimes in combination) that this call to ban cars is now being touted. Yeah, except for that under the radar NWO plan known as Agenda 21/2030. As I mentioned elsewhere on the forum, the goal is to corral the population into designated areas w/ no way of self-movement as in cars. The push for self-driving cars along w/ global deployment of smart meters which are apparently necessary for the utilization of SD cars isn't just happenstance. It's all part of the bigger globalist plan - Serf, know your place! And don't even think about going anywhere! (As that most recent re-accommodation of the United passenger exemplified!)

"I don't need no stinkin' car!

The PTB will start with proposing a car ban, let people get worked up over it and as a 'compromise' propose tolls for entering certain parts of cities which will accomplish their aim of restricting movement. Could be that this is just paranoid thinking, though

I think the self driving cars that they have been talking about plays into that narrative. If cars can be controlled by a central source, not by a driver, then these things like car and truck rammings can be eliminated. Or so would be the message they want to put out there. I don't know, just a thought, but it seems they are pretty adamant about getting this self driving technology out there. A technology that no one is demanding. So having these random acts of vehicle tragedies can create a market where there previously was none. OSIT>
