UFO Research Rough Draft Vanished

Last night I went to go pick back up on my UFO research paper, i had about 3 pages written, maybe like 30% of the total, and it was gone!

The folder I had set aside for my UFO research was still there, some of my notes files still there, but the paper itself was totally absent. I also had it saved on my laptop and a copy on my USB drive at work - both copies were gone. My notes were also very preliminary, like I had maybe six or seven files with quotes and excerpts that I wanted to use and half of them were gone too. Oddly enough it was the same 3 files left in all three places...

I'm really frustrated because it was a good 2-3 days of solid work that just vanished... I commented about it on my facebook page and someone mentioned that this happens frequently in UFO research - has anyone ever experienced anything similar? Any suggestions on how to guard against it in the future?

I sorta blame myself for not finishing it sooner...

Hi Puck,

Don't know how well it would work, but you could save backup copies under different innocent names in a separate folder.

Yeah I guess 'UFO Research Paper' was a bit of an obvious header... Think the next version will be called 'Puppy Research' and have a paragraph at the beginning about puppies....

the fact that the same research is Vanished on your Laptop, hardcopy and USB drive is really odd

What was the the content of the research, something you never wrote before ?

Nah the USB stays at work in my desk, its my work usb. I was doing some editing at work back in august during some downtime which is why I had copies there.

Content was original, but it was mostly me just connecting some dots between Keel, Dolan, Laura's stuff with some Biblical references and God's of Eden thrown in. I didn't even get that far, I was mostly just talking about biblical stuff comparing it to classic UFO sightings and talking about them being extra-spectral, like outside of our visible light spectrum - same thing Keel does. I just included more modern sightings with some comparisons.

Ah erm well I'm not very strategic when it comes to hiding my research habits, so there might have been a facebook status update or two when I was working on it, nothing terribly specific though, and I've mentioned on the forum here, so I guess it could be considered public knowledge.

If someone just "deleted" it on your computer, there are many 'undelete' programs, some of which are free, that may be able to recover your paper. As long as the data (which still exists on the hard drive if it was simply 'deleted') has not been over-written by new data it is recoverable. It would likely be worth a try.

If you search for "file restoration' or "file recovery" you should be able to find something.

I did a lot of research and typed it all up with foot notes ( this was 1977 or so ) but my meterial was comming from our first computer ( USMC then CMCC files) , needless to say it all dissapeared and included me standing tall in front of NIS questioned nekkid for about 3 days !

I kept everything hand written after that in storage ( hidden place) I was debunking the debunkers at the time about project Blue Book ,,,, ya I know I am showing my age lol , but all that is common knowladge now.
but at the time it was sceary, be careful my friend and good luck on your second efforts...

Man I use to have a lot of good data on our piloit's and the things thay chased!

It all seems moot now , knowing what we all know now..
