Upward Lightning from a Tower

Apparently it's a 'known' phenomenon since the 1930's although it's still a mystery as to why it happens. Here are a few more examples.

It seems to work both ways actually.

"Lightning has stepped leaders which originate in the bottom of the cloud and then they also originate from the top of the object that is about to be hit. This is the reason some say you feel like your hair is standing up right before you get hit.

"Once these two leaders meet somewhere halfway then the channel is formed and a dart leader shoots through the channel and then the channel lights up and the transfer occurs and this is the actual strike you see."

I found this explanation in the internet.
