Was sassafras oil (or more specifically chemical compound Safrole) banned in US for same reason as pure nicotine?

While the root bark of the sassafras plant has historically been used by Native Americans to treat illness including fever and rheumatism, the oil from sassafras lends a different result. There is a compound in sassafras oil called safrole, which is a known carcinogen. The FDA set a ban on sassafrass oil back in the 1960s. However, extracts from the roots of the plant are still legal as long as they do not contain safrole.

For hundreds of years it was useful, but now it's not.

Plus, the substance's so called "sideeffects" and chemical characteristics are also similar.

Did anyone experiment with it?

Hi Ancient of Lore, a reason why it's also illegal could be because it's a hallucinogen and can be used to create the harmful drug MDA or MDMA. I read this here. Apparently, too much of the oil can be deadly.

For hundreds of years it was useful, but now it's not.

If they did use safrole, perhaps they used it in a very small and precise concentration, I don't know. But some of the studies on safrole I went through say it can be harmful. See here if you'd like to go through some of the studies: Link

Example:

Effects of safrole on the defensive functions of human neutrophils

In conclusion, the results demonstrated that safrole reduced the antibacterial activity and the superoxide anion production of neutrophils.

Based on this information, I wouldn't be interested in experimenting with it. I think there are some good alternative plants that can be used to improve health, such as hibiscus.

Sassafras was used as anti poison herb by Dr. Christopher and against nicotine poisoning..... Did a bit of research on it last night...
Funny how these plants are very useful and all of a sudden they are banned.
Like the Japanese knotweed being touted as a pest but has a very beneficial substance in it called resveratrol.... Or the castor bean called the terrorist plant cause it's got ricin in it,
