Washington OWS Protestors hit by car

I found this article on Yahoo...totally slanted BTW. It was originally on Reuters. I saw the video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNXGL9As5aI Contrary to what was reported...they did not jump in front of the car and the car did purposefully plow into them. Another thing...on the comments section of the Yahoo article...any comments denouncing the attack or in any way "leftish" have been removed...including mine...just about the only comments left are from the right wingers saying things like "they deserved it", "I'll drive there now and run them over myself". It's sickening.

(Reuters) - Three activists protesting economic inequality were struck by a car and mildly injured late on Friday night as they attempted to block traffic near a gathering of conservatives in the nation's capital, police said on Saturday.
The protesters, who were transported to area hospitals with no signs of visible injury, were cited for obstructing traffic late on Friday night, said Araz Alali, a spokesman for the Metropolitan Police Department.
"The driver saw he had the green light and the protesters then basically jumped in front of the vehicle to block traffic," Alali said. "It appears that the protesters jumped into the path of the vehicle."
Angry protesters swarmed the vehicle after the three were struck, police said. The group refused to disperse and police arrested three other protesters, who were charged with "failure to obey," Alali said.
"My officers attempted to get the protesters to leave the roadway, they repeatedly refused to do so," Alali said.
The incident occurred on Friday as hundreds of protesters affiliated with the "Occupy DC" movement gathered near a convention center in Washington, D.C. where the conservative "Defending the American Dream Summit" was being held.
Occupy DC is a satellite group of the Occupy Wall Street movement that began when protesters set up camp in a Lower Manhattan park on September 17 to protest over economic inequality and high unemployment.
Since then, protests have spread across the nation and world, leading to hundreds of arrests. They have been mostly peaceful except for a few incidents.

edited the title...it was Washington (got confused, the article said Washington, but the youtube videos of the same incident say Oakland.)

Re: DC Protestors hit by car

Well, I watched the video with my Hubby, and he was outraged. My jaw dropped, but I'm seeing so much flat out madness these days I'm getting crispy.

It would be interesting to find out who the jerk was and just why the police didn't arrest him for hit and run, because its pretty clear he intended to hurt these people.

Re: DC Protestors hit by car

There was another video on youtube that showed the driver and his license plate, but I can no longer find it. Here's one of the driver being let go...warning, there is quite a bit of profanity. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OdsAoAKfiM0&feature=related

Another one? that's interesting. On Wednesday two OWS protesters in Oakland were hit by a man driving a mercedes. Local news reported that the police released him after only questioning him for a few minutes.

Oakland Police Chief Howard Jordan said the injuries were not life-threatening.

A massive protest on the Port of Oakland was mostly peaceful Wednesday as the Occupy movement held a one-day general strike.

As the protest was winding down around 8 p.m., two participants were injured when a car hit them in what would have been an open intersection.

The crash happened at 11th Street and Broadway, as protesters marched across the street.

Cell phone video from the scene shows a car hesitantly going through an intersection. As it approaches a man in a white t-shirt, the man tries to stop the vehicle and pounds on its hood.

The car then speeds forward into the protester. There are reports that man was injured and a second woman was hurt when the driver attempted to back up following the initial collision.

KCBS radio said the driver was questioned by police but allowed to leave the scene.

Oakland Police Chief Howard Jordan said the injuries were not life-threatening.

Here is what happened in Occupy Denver on 28 Oct

http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=p4PeNJro-f0

We were there yesterday for 5 Nov., no violence that we know of. Plan to go back for the Saturday noon march next week with a sign that says "Psychopaths Rule Our World"
Also, Michael Moore was in Denver on 4 Nov, rallying the activists!

Ok...this is why I was a bit confused...apparently there were at least 2...on 11-2 in Oakland where a silver Mercedes drove purposefully into the protestors (this is the 1st video I posted, which I mistakenly thought was DC), then 11-4 there was at least 1 maybe 2...hard to tell from the videos. Some videos show the aftermath of a hit and run, where a woman and her dog were hit...the car that hit is not in this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ukp7oJ5E0M

The other videos show a silver Lexus being let go after hitting a pedestrian. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LIwNQp-RG0

Were there 2 separate incidents in Washington? To me, it looks like there were 2...the article talks about 3 protesters hit, and no mention of any dogs, but one of the videos it looks like the victim is 1 woman and her dog(s).

It is confusing, and it does look like 2 incidents. A lot of chaos. I am noticing that in any video recorded by witnesses in the violent incidents for each city/OWS. We get the idea though, and it is good that nothing can be kept hidden.

Latest developments in the Occupy protests occurring in places around the world

Occupy DC protesters provided a police report Monday that they say supports their account that a driver who struck three people at a weekend demonstration hit a fourth person in a separate incident a few minutes earlier.

Police had previously discussed the Friday incident in which three people demonstrating outside the city's convention centre were hit, saying the driver was not charged because witness accounts suggested the demonstrators jumped in front of his car. An assistant police chief reviewing that incident Saturday with reporters said he was not aware of a fourth demonstrator being struck.

But on Monday, the demonstrators called for further investigation.

WASHINGTON — Occupy DC protesters provided a police report Monday that they say supports their account that a driver who struck three people at a weekend demonstration hit a fourth person in a separate incident a few minutes earlier.

Police had previously discussed the Friday incident in which three people demonstrating outside the city’s convention center were hit, saying the driver was not charged because witness accounts suggested the demonstrators jumped in front of his car. An assistant police chief reviewing that incident Saturday with reporters said he was not aware of a fourth demonstrator being struck.

But on Monday, the demonstrators called for further investigation. Occupy DC distributed a police report showing that a silver car struck a 28-year-old woman at 10 p.m. Friday in what police labeled a hit-and-run. A silver Lexus hit the three other demonstrators, including a 13-year-old boy, around the corner from the first scene at 10:05 p.m., according to a second police report. The reports have sequential numbers.

Georgia Pearce, the woman involved in the hit-and-run, said Monday that she had head trauma and “can’t even see straight.” The police report distributed by Occupy DC said she was crossing the street outside a crosswalk and that her goal was to block traffic. But Pearce, of Mississippi, said she did not jump in front of the car.

Asked if police were investigating the two reports as possibly linked or whether police were re-evaluating the decision not to charge the Lexus driver, police spokeswoman Gwendolyn Crump said in an email that she could not comment further and that the matter is under investigation. She later added that any additional information or evidence police receive will “be reviewed and handled accordingly.”

Demonstrators went to the convention center to protest a “Defending the American Dream” summit organized by Americans For Prosperity. The group is allied with the tea party movement and supports lower taxes, less regulation and reduced government spending. The protesters were from Occupy DC, whose members have camped out in McPherson Square for more than a month to call attention to high unemployment and corporate profits. The protest mirrors others around the country inspired by Occupy Wall Street in New York.

The driver of the Lexus did not return a telephone message seeking comment.

Police Chief Cathy Lanier issued a statement Monday about the demonstration. While earlier protests have been peaceful, she said, Friday’s demonstrators were aggressive and blocked people from leaving the convention center. Demonstrators have “become increasingly confrontational and violent toward uninvolved bystanders and motorists,” she said.

“Demonstrators have also jeopardized the safety of their own children by using them in blockades,” she said.

Lanier’s statement included links to four videos posted on YouTube, including scenes of demonstrators moving a toy wagon with two young children sitting in it in front of the doors of the convention center.

Mayor Vincent Gray also issued a similar statement saying his administration was concerned about reports that demonstrators have “turned more aggressive.”

What is it about this Lexus that kept attracting protesters to suddenly jump in front of him? :scared: No matter the info coming out, the media and police still pushing on with excusing the driver because the protesters have, " “become increasingly confrontational and violent toward uninvolved bystanders and motorists”

Also notice the strange coincidence of silver "1%" type cars (mercedes and lexus) doing the running over and being let go. Symbolic?

All of the OWS media coverage brings to mind this video I recently watched on the Truth Research Channel on Youtube. Notice the lies counted on a British news network's coverage of protests in England.

I think the media is trying to foster confrontations between the protesters and the rest of the bystanding public with these incidents....pushing for an 'Us vs Them'.

Anyone else see this? Its creepy.

Absolutely...in fact, I've been calling it happening from the very start. Whether it's them focusing on a few nuts in the crowd, planting instigators, or police instigating and hoping it riles up the masses to react violently. It's really a peaceful movement. In the OWS discussions that I've seen...if one person starts calling for violence...everyone else chastises that person. The police let a hit and run driver go, then when people start screaming about it, say they're "getting more aggressive".

Then consider the media and their legal right to lie..."In February 2003, a Florida Court of Appeals unanimously agreed with an assertion by FOX News that there is no rule against distorting or falsifying the news in the United States." With Murdock's interests threatened by the movement, can anyone expect unbiased reporting? However it's amazing how many people believe it, or want to believe it. How people can be so gullible. I only look at corporate media's stories to see what lies I need to investigate further.
