Weird kindergarten sessions

Hi,

I have been, er, enjoying isn't really the right word, but perhaps, inspired? by Laura's sharing of her life through the Amazing Grace series, which I am reading for the first time. My reading of this series happens to coincide with a paper I have to write this weekend for a class that's in part about my upbringing and how it's shaped who I am and who I'm becoming. I've been thinking about my childhood as well.

I am not sure if I ever wrote about this here, but after a dream I just had, it seems prescient to get some feedback.

I actually recalled just now in kindergarten something that now seems REALLY odd to me, and that I only recalled recently after a dream and thinking hard about what happened. After getting exceptionally high test scores on entrance exams and standardized testing, I recall being taken out of class once a week from the little trailer buildings where we had kindergarten class (which was not really that fun for me- I didn’t like playing house or dolls, so would function as a sort of aide- I would read books to the sick kids while the main teacher was supervising the rest of the class, and as we waited for the nurse to come over from the main building to pick up the sick kids).

This lady would pick me up and take me to a room in the main building and ask me all sorts of questions and give me tests. Sometimes there was a man there with her from some “special” organization…call me a conspiracy theorist, but I did grow up in a town surrounded by three military bases within thirty minutes of me. Who was this man in the dark suit? I don’t recall him ever saying anything, just taking notes. I remember always having to read these pictures of things with the alphabet in order and backwards…I remember being annoyed as well since after a while I would say, look, this is too easy, you know already that I can read this and identify these things. After several months of these once a week sessions they abruptly stopped. I also could never remember the bulk of what went on in these sessions, only the beginning and end. In my dream recently I recalled something about a sort of hypnosis, and while I was in that suggestive state, the man would lead the session, though I still can’t recall what this was about or what he said. And of course this part came to me in a dream so I don't know if I'm just "creating" a solution for what I can't remember happened.

Anyway, after having this dream, I have a vague feeling that they “gave up” on me as a subject after several months and this is why the sessions stopped. I am not sure if this idea comes from a hyperactive imagination but the sessions DID occur (my parents had to sign off on them), and it WOULD be unusual, to say the least, for some outside people to come in and pull a kid out of class each week to "test" them individually in a classroom.

The ironic thing was that a month after all this stopped, they put me in special education gym for a month or two with kids who were physically and/or developmentally challenged. This was odd, to say the least, as I was a kid who was a huge tomboy, large for her age (looked several years older), and would do things when I came home from school like run around the yard with a big plastic baseball bat and play whiffle ball, or play (American) football with my neighbor. Luckily my mom came to her senses after a month or two of this and pulled me out....I later got on a national feeder soccer team and even won a tennis scholarship for college (unused) so obviously no major physical problems. The explanation they gave her is that I didn't know how to use this thing called a roller racer (a seat with wheels you would sit on and maneuver side to side with a handlebar- I found it much faster to sit on it and use my legs on the side to propel me) and that I was "nervous" about going up the stairs (they were steep, and we didn't have stairs at home. Heck, I was a kid anyways, who cares if I was "nervous"?)

So that's my randomness and would appreciate a thought or two. I can't recall if I mentioned this on the forum before or not.
