Weird stuff doesn't usually happen to me but

The Living Force
I just got a phone call from myself. I was sitting in my comfortable chair, reading a novel and digesting breakfast, no unusual stress or emotions or worries--just the norm--when my land-line phone rang. The name on the headset from caller ID was mine and the number was that land-line's number. I just stared at it while it rang--and for better or worse, it never occurred to me to answer it; I just waited for the message machine to receive the call--and any message that might come through. But there was none. I waited a few minutes and then went to the caller list and there it is--My name and number calling me on its own number line at 10:01 AM. Weird

My first thought was that it was my self in the future calling my present me with some message--like "get off your butt and get your chores done"--, but then I thought more seriously that it must be a purposeful message/warning--but what? Could it be phone spies? or phone line malfunction? 4D bleed-through? message from future self?

I haven't experienced enough odd phenomenon in my life to be able to measure the level of weirdness this is in the big picture of things--but it sure is a bit spooky to me.

Any thoughts--feedback--similar experiences?

Thanks
shellycheval

PS If "I" call back--should I answer it?

This same exact thing happened to me just 4 days ago. Never had it happen before. And weird stuff usually doesn't happen to me either.

I was in a relaxed state on the couch reading and my land-line phone rang. I did not jump up to answer it but let the call go to the answering machine. No message was left on the recorder. Then several minutes later, I checked caller ID and was shocked to see my full name and land-line phone number. The same thought occurred to me, that wow maybe it was a call from my future self and wondered what it could mean.

I did save it on my caller ID list and look at it every now and then.

Very strange indeed. Especially now after reading your post shellycheval.

I got one too on the 26th of August at 10:14am est. I answered the call, but no one responded. Strange indeed! My name and number came up on caller ID.

Hi!

It never happened to me, as far as I know... but I've recently read about some strange "spoofed id calls", and it may help to understand one way of achieving what you described.

The story is about faking telephone numbers; a guy calls the police with a faked number, and tell them fake things. Eventually, the police would arrive at the wrong place.

Here is a link of a phone id spoof software: _http://crazycall.net/
(I never tried it, because I was too lazy to set up an account! So I do not know if this works.)

And a second link, of people discussing some ways of achieving it: _http://ask.metafilter.com/69163/How-to-EmulateFake-a-telephone-area-code

PS: hmm, there is something strange, Shellycheval... I was about to post my answer, but something came to my mind.

I first wanted to post the link of the story I mentioned, but I did not do it for two reasons:

1. its in french
2. it originates from a website who is kind of polemic
__h__p://www.egaliteetreconciliation.fr/La-LDJ-tente-d-intimider-le-rappeur-Kamelancien-26963.html

but, shellycheval,

the guy who did the "spoofed calls" has a strange name: its Gregory Chelly :)

As some would says "that there are no coincidence", I just went on with this post-scriptum.

Well--that's 3 and that establishes a pattern. I just called my sister who lives in another state and has seriously weird stuff (sees dead people) happen to her fairly frequently and she has never had a phone call from herself, nor has a friend of mine who lives near by. So far the only people acknowledging such an experience are other Forum members.

Curiouser and curiouser.

I have no idea how or why these kinds of things happen, but it could be something as simple as a glitch in the phone company's programming. There are, of course, scarier possible explanations, and maybe this type of thing is an indicator of even crazier things which will happen in the future.

I wouldn't dwell on it though, as nobody is harmed and it is just another of those 'odd occurrences' which our group seems to attract.
Have another smoke! :cool2:

"We've traced the call, and it's coming from inside the house!"

I don't think this is anything paranormal, but what they call phone spoofing. The caller can spoof the number so you can't see where the call is coming from. I looked this up online where the number showed the same name and number of where it was calling and many people said that when they picked up, the caller on the other end was a company asking if they wanted to refinance their credit cards.

I would definitely just ignore.

I forgot to mention another thought I had after it happened. Maybe the phone company was working in the neighborhood and it was them checking the line?

Just funny that it's never happened before.

This happened to me too a month or two ago. For whatever reason, I was unable to get to the phone in time to answer it. When I did, I checked the caller id to see who had called and was surprised to see my own number! I had never seen that happen before.

 Yeah, I thought about that movie too--but there are no other phones to check on this line in this house! ;D
But, mostly I thought of Richard Gere"s character in Mothman Prophecy . . . :(

Most likely.
Thanks to all for the feedback--since I don't smoke, I think I'll go dust.

OK--mystery solved.
Instead of dusting I went surfing and Googled "phone spoofing" as suelarue suggested, and found several references to scammers Phishing by having your own name and number appear in your caller ID. It is becoming quite common and the suggested response is don't answer or call back any messages.

Why is My Number Calling Me? A Crazy New Scam.

Scammers are using caller ID spoofing technology to impersonate the phone numbers of local businesses, neighbors and even you! Watch out for this wacky twist on the classic phishing phone scam.

How the Scam Works:

Your phone rings, and you look at the caller ID. You recognize the number. It may be from a local business or a neighbor down the street. But in strange twist, you might even see your own name and phone number on the caller ID screen.

I don't know if getting a new unlisted phone number would be worth the bother as the scammers seem to have the newest technology first.
Anyway, it caught me off guard and seemed too weird--but WEIRD has rapidly become the new "normal."

Type "phone call from myself" in Google and you'll find a lot of similar reports. Some call it "Glitch in the Matrix".

Electric disturbance of cosmic/earth change origins?

I've also received strange Email from me-self (my first name - dot - surname @ harbourlines.com) which i didn't create. That bogus (?) company is supposedly from Sri Lanka - so i'm wondering if i'll move there in "future

It does sound like telemarketers "spoofing". By a google search, it seems to be happening quite a lot to many people. Back in the day, we used to "call ourselves" by dialing 8, then our number, then hang up quick. The phone would then ring back, essentially calling yourself. {We used to prank our parents with this just for giggles, watching them get up, answer, then keep repeating "hello" - pretty silly, buy we were kids. :P }

Thank you shellycheval. Very thought provoking.

Has anyone heard a recording of their own voice. Because of the inner ear proximity to the larynx, what we "hear" as our voice is not what everyone else "hears". If I did call myself from the future, I don't know if I would recognize my own voice.
:) :) :)

So... Now y'all got me thinking. Now I'm thinking of a keyword (if'n I remember), a keyword I can use to tell myself then I would know that phone call is indeed from me, talking to me...

:P :P :P
