I remember reading somewhere that lying damages the brain, and it makes sense.. you have to contend with reality as it is, and then write a whole different version of it and expend the effort to convince yourself of the reality of your lie.

I suppose it is far more common a phenomenon and we all do it constantly, but the way some of these individuals behave, and their thinking, is only close to the fanatics that I have seen in hardcore sports fans, the difference being that a sports fan is aware that he wants his team to win because that's his team... there's an awareness of the bias, in most people who are that deeply politically inclined, there's a deep belief that they are absolutely correct and that reality backs their notions.

That is what is so shocking about it.
