what's this - password check when accessing sott.net?

i just went to sott.net and was presented with this (see jpg).

if i hit cancel i can access sott as usual.

I registered, but still couldn't get through. Then I clicked "cancel" and here I am.

Apparently it was a temporary setting change after some maintenance. we've leaned It's fixed now.

Something very strange happened to me while accessing sott.net on a friend's cell phone browser. I put in the address, and a screen came up that said "Area 51, security clearance needed" or something similar, and asked for my name and a password! I exited and tried again, and sott.net came up as usual. Strange?
