Work inspired Blues Tune

mocachapeau

Dagobah Resident
Hi everyone,

I tried to write a blues tune inspired by the Work. At the same time I didn't want to stray too far from the typical blues subjects - it wasn't easy. But this is what I came up with.

I had some fun throwing pictures together to post it on youtube, so the slide show is not really supposed to go with the song, as a unit per se.

I hope you like it.

Edit:

Here are the lyrics.

I’ve Been Lied To

So many stories and so many tales
Some of them fishes and some of them whales
Can’t be too careful choosing who to believe
It seems like everybody’s hiding something up their sleeve
How many times will I be burned before I learn to perceive

Looking for love can be a risky affair
When there’s there’s no way to know if someone really cares
Is it myself that they see or just the clothes that I wear
The soul I reveal or just the wave of my hair
I long to find someone real ‘fore I fall into despair

I take my chances time after time
Stick out my neck – put my love on the line
Just when I think I’m with someone I can trust
I head down to the bank just to find out that I’m bust

CHORUS
I’ve been lied to
It’s so hard to believe
I’ve been lied to
Impeccably deceived
I’ve been lied to
I can’t get no relief
But I try to

So many turns in so many roads
Seems like all I’ve got to follow is the tip of my nose
Is there a signpost directing me to where and when
There’s a way to walk that won’t waver and bend
I’m forever heading south toward another dead end

Found me a guru with the answers I seek
He says all I need to do is turn the other cheek
To live and let live and forgive and forget
Just be a happy camper and you’ll have no regrets
Simply follow his advice because it hasn’t missed yet

I get to smiling all over town
Acting so sweet but feeling the clown
Now that he’s gone I still don’t know where it’s at
I check into the bank just to find out that I’m flat

CHORUS and out

Yeah, that's me singing, and thank you for the kind words.

I use a program called Finale for the instruments I don't play - bass, drums and horns. It allows me to write actual notes on the staff and then plays it back with the instrument of my choice. Then I transfer it into a mixing program called Cool Edit Pro. After that I record the guitar, vocals and saxophone live over top of it. And all this takes place in my bedroom - I hope the neighbours don't mind!!

I really enjoyed that mocachapeau! And now that I see how you did that, I am, well, basically just amazed.

I hope to hear more of your creations in the future.

Hi mocachapeau,

I was curious what will search form give me when I enter "blues", and result is here, I have found your song.
I was listening a lot to blues and soul music a few years ago, and I must say that I really enjoyed listening to your song. I like your singing very much and saxophone is great.

Well, mocachapeau, first of all, thanks for sharing.
Second of all, I've been thinking of doing something of the sort, writing a song with lyrics inspired by The Work but I think your song has given me the inspiration to finally get right down to it!
So there goes a double thank you! and rock on! :headbanger:

That's about the best thing I've ever heard as a result of me writing a song. I'm so glad to hear that, and I hope you DO write a work-inspired song. I'm looking forward to hearing it.

Thanks for that, Nuke.
