It is clear through for example the sott earth changes category and sott summary videos that the worldwide natural disasters are on the rise, nonetheless I always wondered if there are some statistics that could further underline such events and to get some concreter numbers or stats. When it comes to disasters it goes hand in hand with money to rebuilt for example destroyed buildings. And to get some concrete numbers was to check out insurance companies and one of the largest insurance companies is the Munich Re as I could find.

Here is some data from 1980 to 2013:

For 2014 there are 980 reported events

For 2013 there are 880 reported events (and one extraterrestrial event due to Tcheljabinsk in Russia)

For 2012 there are 905 reported events

Very interesting. Hmm, seems the peak was right around the time the financial crisis was starting.

...there is, found this report: The Human Cost of Natural Disasters CRED 2015 _http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:qdpKnRCmhZYJ:cred.be/sites/default/files/The_Human_Cost_of_Natural_Disasters_CRED.pdf+&cd=6&hl=es&ct=clnk&gl=mx (cache link) the pdf looks much better. And, just read that Munich Re is one of it's sources. It looks interesting, had not read it all.

It has several graphics and statistics like:
--Number of disasters worldwide and by continent
over the period 1994-2013
--Number of disasters worldwide and by continent
over the period 1994-2013
--Number of people affected by disaster type (1994-2013)
--Climate-related vs. geophysical disasters: number of events by sub-group :
10 most disaster-affected countries (1994-2013)
etc...
With info regarding global natural disasters, patterns and trends; human impacts of natural disasters; disaster damage to housing; economic costs of disasters, etc ...

I suppose, it depends on the experience, I remember stronger financial crisis at the 80's and 90's, the benefit of coming from third world class, latest financial crisis had not felt that tough. :/
