Your observations of social effects of economic impact

From this thread, Redfox had an idea for an article and M.A.O some thoughts on the next crisis.

I've had an idea on my mind for some time now...perhaps a year or two. Here in the UK society seems to be slowly being dismantled. Village post offices, pubs, libraries, schools and shops are closing. The only places left are more and more centralised/homogenised mega corporations/shopping centres....
Explaining whats going on, on a social level with things people can see on the ground I figured would be a good article...or series of articles...may be quite engaging.

Greenspan was quoted in European news ( 4 month's ago) with just a small box and his picture making a warning that said that the next massive failure in the economic picture would dwarf the last most current.

Perhaps the heads up article as banks of the U.S. are heavily vested in the commercial real estate market. Wells Fargo if I remember was Around 60% invested in commercial real estate as financial vehicle on there books.

Looking around your area of the states it plain to see many small and large business's have left big gaps in malls and towns a like.
If this is not a subject that has been looked or into in depth, one might find it will be the next run on the banking system, if this picture goes unchanged in the next 10 months.

With the aim of developing a focus piece, it would be interesting to hear your observations of the reality of the situation in your area or other ideas/links on this topic.
