There was an old TV show called Hogan's Heroes. It was comedy about American prisoners of war captured by Germany during WWII. The show portrayed the Germans as comically stupid and the American POWs as absolutely brilliant. As a kid, there were a couple kids living down the street. Their parents were directly from Germany, were insulted and would let the kids watch that show...
