Also in tandem with another spike on the KP index due to the geomagnetic storm from the solar coronal hole (so sez S0).

Winter wasn't that cold this year, relatively, but it was LONG. We are finally, finally getting some warm days on the coast of Lake Superior in the US. :D

NW coast England: yesterday, almost total cloud cover, and the wind had you shivering if you were out for more than 10 minutes.

Today started same, but a break in the cloud for an hour or so gave some strong warm sunshine - i got me some ;) - which i think shows how much of a difference the wind and cloud makes.

The split in temperature continues, but it's predicted that the cold weather will creep further south giving the whole of the country frost.

Snow occurred last night at higher altitudes - making more of a mockery of these 'April Showers'. It's not impossible at this time of year, but it's not exactly expected and is odd.

Storm here today near Toulouse. Well, we were driving back from Toulouse; overhead mammatus clouds, very dark, cloud to cloud lightning across entire sky. We made it home. More lightning and thunder that actually made the window rattle! That was a first!

There have since been more thunderstorms here. It's generally warm and sunny during the day, then there are one or two heavy rains at night during thunderstorms. Rather tropical and unusually early in the year for this part of Europe.

The State of Wyoming is informing all commercial trucks entering their port of entry on Interstate 80 eastbound that the entire interstate is shut down at Rock Springs due to whiteout conditions.

I-80 In Wyoming Opens After Poor Weather Caused Day-Long Shutdown (Video)

A 150-mile stretch of Interstate 80 between Cheyenne and Rawlins, Wyoming, reopened Friday night, more than 20 hours after major wrecks involving dozens of semi trucks forced police to close it down.

Blinding, blowing snow hit southern Wyoming Thursday, creating impossible driving conditions that police say likely led to a series of three wrecks along the interstate. More than 30 commercial vehicles and 12 passenger cars were involved.

Photos show the semi trucks piled up on one another. No one was killed, but about a dozen people were hospitalized.

Temperatures over 30C in Macedonia in April. I thing this is a record high temperatures.

Unusual warmth here in Siberia too. Actually, the winter here was also unusually warm, and now we're having an early spring. It's 15C here today and according to our local weather forecast, it's going to be 20C tomorrow and about the same further on.

Last year we had snow in April and now we're having green grass and first spring flowers already.

Houston - from large hail to massive flooding.

Houston largely shut down amid rain, flooding (Videos)
http://www.cnn.com/2016/04/18/us/houston-texas-flooding/index.html

More than a foot of rain in some places flooded low-lying areas across the Houston region on Monday, forcing officials to suspend bus and rail service, close schools and government offices and urge residents to stay home amid what authorities said were extremely dangerous conditions.

"This is a life-threatening emergency," the city said on an emergency website. "Houston residents should avoid travel at all costs today."

No injuries or deaths have been reported, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner told reporters Monday, but crews have had to head into the high waters to rescue more than 400 people, fire department spokesman Ruy Lozano told CNN.

At least 1,000 homes were flooded in Harris County, according to county Judge Ed Emmett. Some people were trapped in their homes or attics, Lozano said.

The water was too deep for crews to reach them in high-water vehicles, so rescuers were trying to get to those people in boats, he said.

Nine hospitals in the region were closed to additional patients because of the flooding, the mayor said. Three apartment buildings had been evacuated and residents were being sheltered at a mall, Turner added.

Portions of I-10 and numerous roads throughout the metropolitan area were closed, as were many government offices. The city's bus and rail service shut down early Monday amid "severe and ever worsening weather conditions."

Some areas had received as much as 16 inches of rain by Monday morning, according to the flood control district.

The heavy rains forced seven of the city's many bayous out of their banks and created flooding in parts of the city that had not flooded for many years, Turner said.

Flash flood warnings were up in about two dozen Texas counties across in the southern part of the state, including the Houston and Austin metropolitan areas.

Thanks for posting, itellsya. That video also has a great example of a normalcy bias. A man in his car is in flood waters and a news crew films it. He opens the door of the car to almost shoulder high waters, but continues to just sit in the car, asking, "What do I do, I don't know what to do? Do I stay with the car?". Fortunately, the news crew starts yelling, "Sir, get out of the car, you have to get out! Swim!", then one of them goes out into the water to help. But my goodness, I think that man would have died in his car if no one was there to tell him to get out. It is amazing what panic can do. It is good to be aware at all times, especially with these changing times we live in!

Here in São Paulo, Brazil, we had the warmest March recorded for 137 years and this month (Autumn should've given signs other that the dry weather since last month) no rain at all. The latest pluviometric data I saw was like 0.9 mm of rain since April 1st, when the average rainfall for the month stands at almost 90 mm. We're surviving, I guess. Considering that even Siberia is hot nowadays... :halo:
