Temperatures over 30C in Macedonia in April. I thing this is a record high temperatures.

Unusual warmth here in Siberia too. Actually, the winter here was also unusually warm, and now we're having an early spring. It's 15C here today and according to our local weather forecast, it's going to be 20C tomorrow and about the same further on.

Last year we had snow in April and now we're having green grass and first spring flowers already.

Here in São Paulo, Brazil, we had the warmest March recorded for 137 years and this month (Autumn should've given signs other that the dry weather since last month) no rain at all. The latest pluviometric data I saw was like 0.9 mm of rain since April 1st, when the average rainfall for the month stands at almost 90 mm. We're surviving, I guess. Considering that even Siberia is hot nowadays... :halo:

30С here today... in April... in Siberia...

It may be related due to Strong El Nino that slowly should fade away in the late spring/ early summer then will follow "neutral" conditions that have almost 70 % chance to develop in La Nina in the late summer/early autumn. Last year here in Italy and in most of the Europe we had one of the hottest summers on record, today i've read an article that predicted the same scenario will develop this summer, don't know, it may happen but i have some doubts about it, will see.

Today here in Northern Italy is pretty cloudy, a big storm is coming that will bring hail, high winds in many parts of the country, in the last couple of weeks during the day the temperatures are seasonal but during the night it feels a little cold, unusual for this time of the year, for example last year the same period of the year the temperatures were already above normal, i already "knew" that it will be a very hot summer :D ,i don't stand the heat so i'm paying a particular attention to weather conditions this time of the year.

In Geneva, Switzerland, it's exceptionally warm and sunny, One could even say "very pleasant", but with colder breaks once a week. Today, 20 Celsius on shadow.

Actually, this year, for the first time, weather looked kind of balanced (if it's accurate to use these terms); for example, after a 5-sunny day serie, we would eventually have rain.

A propos, does a kind of "best day combo" between sunshine and rain for earth exist?

This year, one week prior 21st of march, buds appeared on trees. Last years, people frequently complained about precoce or late budding and/or blooming.

However, we did not experience any storm, lightning, thunder for a while now (maybe one year) in the area. It's even hard remember when was the last one.

Do any one knows about the condition of no storm, no thunder and no lightning for a long period of time?

North west coast of England: three days of glorious sunshine with temps up to 18C IN the sun which is rather warm for this time of year. Though the wind is still strangely chilly.

It seems the jet stream has drifted over parts of mainland Europe instead. However, as with last weeks weather, it's set to drift back over England this weekend and into next week (and maybe Europe too), dropping temps, bringing us back to 9C, and rain is expected. The forecasters are raving about the shift.

today:

13061967_10153718030829209_5838629982899921188_n.jpg

Lots of rain today, from mild to very heavy down pours. Cooler temps have accompanied this round of perspiration.

As in the in the past at this time i would still be shoveling snow, (all the way until mid May).

But this year turned out to be a very short winter snow season at this elevation.

But the rain continues its relentless advance for the last 6 months.

Local weather news indicate the possibility of lighting and thunder tomorrow afternoon. Bataan down the hatches

No complainants, just continue to adapt.

Mean while in the states.

Astronomy Picture of the Day Asperatus Clouds Over New Zealand 2016 April 17 (or so they say)
http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap160417.html
Explanation: What kind of clouds are these? Although their cause is presently unknown, such unusual atmospheric structures, as menacing as they might seem, do not appear to be harbingers of meteorological doom. Known informally as Undulatus asperatus clouds, they can be stunning in appearance, unusual in occurrence, are relatively unstudied, and have even been suggested as a new type of cloud. Whereas most low cloud decks are flat bottomed, asperatus clouds appear to have significant vertical structure underneath. Speculation therefore holds that asperatus clouds might be related to lenticular clouds that form near mountains, or mammatus clouds associated with thunderstorms, or perhaps a foehn wind -- a type of dry downward wind that flows off mountains. Such a wind called the Canterbury arch streams toward the east coast of New Zealand's South Island. The featured image, taken above Hanmer Springs in Canterbury, New Zealand, in 2005, shows great detail partly because sunlight illuminates the undulating clouds from the side.

More rain in Hong Kong as well today, and forecasted to rain the whole week (again !) with thunderstorms and morning fog and mist...

Seems like the atmosphere is highly charged globally with the increased cosmic rays. I recall from Secret History III Earth Changes, increasing cosmic rays leads to increased charge buildup on the Earth and atmosphere which in turn encourages water vapour to coagulate around charged particles and form into bigger droplets/fog/mist/clouds - hence i think this is the reason for the daily fog now in Hong Kong...

Till now it was a quite normal April here in Southern Bavaria. Sometimes sunny, sometimes rainy, not too cold.

This morning it was snowing with 2oC. Now it is snowing again. It looks like winter with very many flakes. The trees and plants are looking like late spring with fresh leaves. Many flowers are blooming. But with all the snow it is appearing strange indeed.

Edit: correct typo

Temperature around 10C and light rain In Macedonia. New snow only on a high mountain area since yesterday.

Meteo-bulletin from Split, Dalmatia:

  • Boorah (yeah :-[) with clouded skies today here with some snow  falling on surrounding mountains - quite a winterish ambience - in contrast from very warm days before weekend which were ideal for visiting a local Bache Beach - exactly what young female tourists (luckily no topless - yet :-[) practiced in dozens - maybe a fool moon had to do something with them emerging in such numbers ...
  • So weather pattern last two weeks was: couple of overcast days followed by couple of Boorish days after which came a few beautiful sunny days... Must admit i would subscribe for that kind of whimsical wether

The weather has been acting really strange here in Luxembourg during the last week. On Thursday we reached a 21C high with clear skies for the whole day, it almost felt like summer. Two days later, the weather suddenly changed and on Sunday we dropped to 0C with pretty heavy snow and hailstorm in the afternoon, though it was short-lived. Today, the temperature was still near 0C in the evening and it literally feels like winter.

So the shift was more intense than expected and is set to continue for at least the next 7 days. The sun is still warm on the skin but the wind has been so icey that it sucks all heat out of you. Temps ~1 - 3C max at night and ~6-8C max in the day.

The last two nights we've also had strong winds which have made it feel even colder. That said, the wind has been so strong the sky never stayed cloudy for long and any rain/hail/snow (!) same, and this is reflected in some of the comments below.

Also, many of the commenters in this thread reflect quite accurately the shift and accompanying surprise! Me too!

Here's a visual of what's going on in Europe - and below is a collection of strange weather from all over the world:

Virtually all of Europe is in for a cold end of April and first days of May, under the influence of polar air advecting south. Temperatures will be about 5-10 °C below average for this time of the year, with some areas (central Balkans tomorrow, south Germany on Tuesday, Slovenia, Hungary and Croatia on Wednesday, ...) going even 10-15 °C below average. These areas will certainly be under the threat of serious frost.

Note the cold airmass extending all the way over the Mediterranean into north Africa - anyone going on vacation to Tunisia over the coming two week?

An unusual as it seems, there is no spring temperatures return over Europe soon. According to the latest ensemble ECMWF model maps, the unusually cold weather will remain over the continent across at the last the next 7 of not 10 days.

One massive storm system. Several different extreme weather results.

A massive low-pressure center swirls over Denver. The effects of the giant comma-shaped storm stretch from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico.

Welcome light rains in Minnesota. Record April heat in Seattle. Prolific snow totals in Colorado's high country. Torrential downpours and flash floods along the tail end of the troubled front in Houston.

A sign of what lies ahead? It's nearly May but it's snowing with 'thundersnow' in London

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 11:54 UTC

Snow and sleet has fallen in many parts of the UK as temperatures struggle to get into double figures with the prospect of a Spring-like May a long way off.

It is the latest widespread snow has been seen in the UK since May 6, 1997, when more than 200 weather stations recorded it.
[i believe 1997 was the last El nino event too]
Before that forecasters have to go back to April 27, 1985 when several London weather stations recorded sleet.

London_snow_2.jpg

Pedestrians experience a brief snow shower on Westminster Bridge, in central London earlier today as the cold weather continued.

London is quite strange because the activity/pollution and it being far south typically keep it above average. So it's not just the higher altitude areas which have had on/off snow since winter came - as well as some snow that just never melted like in Scotland.

Some people are quite interested in what's going on with the weather, and yet some brush it off as a usual-unusual event.

I heard there was snow in the Adriatic, Paris, (below) Germany, the US and so on.

Meanwhile, of course, most folks just continue as normal.

Some parts of Belgium had snow yesterday and we had some slushy hail. It was around 7°C. But at some point last week, it was 18°C!
