Javier Milei has been elected president of Argentina: Madman or genius?

I agree that Antartica has a lot of value, and if anyone was aiming at exploiting it, they'd need control of a safe passage through the southern Atlantic.

But, as things currently stand? I daresay it would be a very bad move for the Russians to launch a war so far away from home, while they have so much going on in their border.
 
The president of Argentina, Javier Milei, said in an interview to The Free Journal published on Thursday that he hates the State:

"I love, love being the mole inside the State. I am the one who destroys the State from within. It's like being infiltrated in the enemy ranks."

The State, possibly from a romantic point of view, represents the people, is the people. A form of social organization, with sovereign institutions, an organ that regulates the life of a nation, so basically Milei is declaring his hatred for the Argentine people. In another part of the interview he declares himself a Terminator to end the threat of socialism.

In half a year in office Milei has fallen out with more than 10 nations: China, Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, Chile, Brazil, Cuba, Nicaragua and Spain to name a few. His attitude has left Argentina diplomatically isolated. In three months of Javier Milei's administration, poverty increased 10.8 points, jumping from the 44.7% recorded by the Argentine Catholic University (UCA) at the end of 2023 to 55.5% in March. According to the Argentine media, this is an unprecedented increase in the last two decades, surpassing the evolution of the Mauricio Macri and Alberto Fernández administrations, the latter including a pandemic.

I was wondering the same. What are the facts? Not that it's that unlikely, but why make such a claim without proof, while the guy is certifiably crazy otherwise?

Wow... So, he is from the future, and his dogs are his advisors. I have to say that as much as I keep telling Bluegazer that Argentina isn't that special or unique, in terms of the most mentally insane and overtly lunatic president who should be on medication but instead runs a country, maybe Argentina does win the world prize...
 
The guy has spent around a month abroad, in just over 6 months since he was inaugurated. He visited the US just before the runoff election, and then four more times since he took office in December. All of them unoficially. He met with Elon Musk, Donald Trump, the Big Tech CEOs, attended the conservative conference CPAC and the Viva24 conference in Spain, hosted by VOX. He also visited Israel, the Vatican and Italy. And he is set to participate in the G7 meeting this week, invited by Meloni, also to be held in Italy.

While he receives praise internationally, he still has to run the government back home, where his initiatives have not been well received and the stonewalling he's facing throws him into fits of narcissistic rage. How come everyone outside of Argentina is telling him how great he is while things are not going his way in his own country?

His politician influencer fame is pushing him into saying more and more crazy stuff, trying to get more support from outside in an attempt to influence things domestically. He is a mental breakdown waiting to happen.

(The interview is worth watching, by the way. The degree of sanity in Bukele seems indirectly proportional to Milei's...)

And that's all he is really, it's like if you gave one of these very vocal influencers on YouTube the presidential title, they'd run around completely immersed in the delusion that they must be so correct, since life gave them such a prize, that they would behave as Milei has.

It would be a very interesting psychological observational exercise if so many people weren't suffering the consequences of a man child running their country into the ground.

Anarcho-capitalists like him believe that everything can be managed better with private organizations, instead of a state. Though in the end, there is really not much of a difference, since it also ends up being an oligarchy.
