interesting documentary on this

Based on the book by Mark J.T. Griffin, who also directs the film, the investigation explores the political motives of the time, who stood to benefit from Lawrence's death, and the legacy he left behind. From forensic re-analysis to historical reappraisal, the documentary paints a gripping portrait of conspiracy and cover-up.

The authorities were anti-Lawrence due to his champioining of, and sympathy towards, the Arabs and this went against what the authorities wanted to happen in the Middle East - as is apparent today.
