49 victims in shootings at 2 New Zealand mosques

One of the first 4Chan threads I could find started at 9:15 Eastern on 3/14/19. The screenshot posted (assuming it was taken immediately before posting) says the video was streamed live "39 minutes ago", i.e. at approximately 8:36 Eastern. In NZ time, that means the 4Chan post was made at 2:15 pm, with the broadcast starting no later than 1:36 pm. He fires his first shot about 6:30 into the video, so that means if the video was broadcast live, he fired the first shot no later than 1:42 pm. Since the timeline has him firing the first shot at 1:40, either they're 2 minutes off, or it took the 4Chan poster around 2 minutes to make the post after making the screenshot, which is reasonable.

What I'm reading here is that they're now saying he was arrested 21 minutes after the first emergency call.
If they're sticking to their earlier statement that they received the first emergency call at 1:41pm, one minute after Tarrant began opening fire at Al Noor, then there's no way he could do both mosques in 22 minutes.

There was a timeline towards the bottom of the article and it included a "multiple simultaneous attacks" comment:

3.40pm: Police confirmed there were multiple simultaneous attacks on mosques in Christchurch.

I don't know how they can have it both ways.

New Zealand's foreign minister arrived in Turkey early Friday for what he called "substantial" talks after comments made by Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan over the killing of 50 people at mosques in Christchurch a week ago sparked a diplomatic spat between the nations.

New Zealand minister lands in Turkey, wants 'substantial' talks over Christchurch

Peters and Erdogan are to attend an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Friday in Istanbul over the shootings in Christchurch and Islamophobia. The OIC groups together Muslim countries to protect the interest of the Muslim world.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has said Peters was headed to Turkey to “confront” comments made by Erdogan on the killings, and she repeated on Friday he was there to “set the record straight.”

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison earlier this week called the comments “deeply offensive” and summoned Turkey’s ambassador for a meeting, though on Thursday he said progress had been made and “we’ve already seen the moderation of the president’s (Erdogan’s) views.”

New Zealand does not mention shooting video in Erdogan meeting: minister
New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters said on Friday that he did not ask Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan to stop showing at election rallies video footage of last week's shooting in Christchurch because he understood it has stopped.

Turkey's Erdogan shows shooting video again, hours after NZ meeting
Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan replayed graphic footage of New Zealand's worst mass shooting at an election rally on Friday - just hours after that country's foreign minister met him and said he believed the controversial showings had stopped.

That settles that then. Thanks for working it out.

While we're on his social media presence, here is a saved copy of his Twitter account:

It was only opened in February, and, I think, he only posted his first tweet on 12 March. He posted a flurry that day, mostly garbage, and also photos of his weapons. The only other tweet is one posted just before his rampage with links to 'manifesto'.

Can you find out when his 4chan account was opened? Old posts, etc?

My bad. I didn't check the news article. 21 minutes indeed.

Scanning the comments below Tarrant's archived opening post at 8chan, where he announced his intention to "carry out and (sic) attack against the invaders," the vast majority are whooping and hollering. They have nothing but praise for him.

I want to believe they're not fascists/racists/potential mass killers over there - as the media has been saying they are since 2016 - so someone please tell me they're... just pretending?

A lot of them are for real. We shifted our lens on to the crazy lefties for a couple years for good reason but this kind of stuff has been growing.

Couldn't find any more than you. bellingcat put up a post looking at bits from his manifesto, and the 4chan thread you linked to: Shitposting, Inspirational Terrorism, and the Christchurch Mosque Massacre - bellingcat

I really don't know. I think many of them are actual fascists/racists, but who knows what their actual numbers are and how far they'd actually go outside of posting on 4chan. There are a lot of ethno-nationalists like this of various stripes that I've encountered online. A lot are "Hitler was a great guy", "the Jews are evil and responsible for everything" types. Again, hard to know how many are deadly serious and how many just think it's funny, or something in between.

I think many of them are just trolls, in the sense that they get all the satisfaction they need just 's**tposting' online. They probably actually believe in what they post, but it's more for 'the lulz' than anything. They seem emotionally retarded, regardless. So within that group, there's probably a small minority who actually are potential mass killers. Just like all the jihadis online. There's an echo chamber of ideology, and all it takes is an opportunity, which some will take, like the war in Syria.

Interesting 'coincidence' caught by Sibel Edmonds, who's in Turkey right now. Both times Tarrant arrived in Turkey, the German embassy shut down over a 'very specific' terror threat, the only times they shut down in the last 7 years or so. After the second Turkey trip, Tarrant traveled to Israel.

Interesting indeed! Her sharing of her "expert" credentials on the second video is probably the only time I have ever felt it was good news and really meant a lot. Most "experts" I tend to question but not this one.

Thanks, Approaching Infinity.

I think this kind of "trolling" and 's**tposting' stuff might have become the norm rather the exception in quite a number of online "discussions" and might also be related to what I described as something seriously rotten in the state of Denmark a couple of post back, when I talked about having a discussion with a young german guy about the video. A lot of it might also have to do with the untermensch status muslims in general have acquired in the minds of many people. It might even be worst than that; human live in general seems to have been devalued and conscience and decency gone out of the window or seriously numbed down around the globe. And I think the interent is a big part that has played into this. Not saying that the internet is to blame per se, just that what is in people (or they strive towards) seems to crystallize through it rather quickly. The post modern "no value in anything", "everything is mechanical and without spirit" that darwinisms among others has brought into this world, might be some of the key reasons why we got to this strange point in time.

This "trolling" and 's**tposting' kind of behavior doesn't seem to extent only to such cruel and violent stuff, but has become rather the norm than the exception in discussions between people and especially in the young generation. This kind of unconscionable infantile "discussions" are rather common nowadays me thinks.

I actually wouldn't be surprised and would even find it rather likely that the young german guy I talked about, is engaging in these kind of discussions as well with his friends. There also seems to be a big schizophrenic component in all of that. For example, those "Nazis" above who glorify the perpetrator and what he did use the word "my -homie-" and similar phrases that used to belong to the "black american community", phrases that mostly were created by "hip hop culture". Kind of strange. A lot of that also seems to be informed in great parts by the "rap" and "hipop" "culture" many of those people are into and has sort of shaped young generations in a very narcissistic and stupid way. In this "music" (sorry for calling it that!) porn, violence, trolling, dissing, infantile language, and frankly, to be plain stupid, has become the norm and "cool". You are considered strange or "uncool" from people in that generation nowadays if you can form a coherent sentence that doesn't include infantile degenerate language. Also, in that regard, wanting to learn something useful and striving to educate yourself and avoid certain things has become "uncool". Today expressing yourself stupid in an infantile unconscionable way is considered cool. In other words; being stupid and uninformed is cool and normal.

I think what we are witnessing at least partly are "lost generations" for which anything of value and decency has become a thing of the distant past.

Wow !!!

I no longer believe in coincidences with these kind of characters and events. Tarrant reminds me of Oswald. Oswald (former US Marine) traveled to the Soviet Union, lived there and then returned without even getting a parking ticket for doing it. In 1963 he was called the "lone gunman".

Yup, and they've used that term ever since, with no irony intended.

I get that they'd later 'fall into confluence with their in-group ideology', but what struck me was that their 'first blink' was the opposite of revulsion: glee.
