The recent fireball in maine has gotten a lot of attention on facebook. The guy who posted it has close to 5,000 shares at the moment. It's on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=3888149540255

And is up on Sott here: http://www.sott.net/article/273579-Meteor-fireball-leaves-trail-over-Maine-VIDEO

I messaged the guy who took the video to let him know what it was along with the recent article on SOTT about the rise of fireball sightings. He and others were pretty confused as to what it was.

Here's some of the comments from the main video:

"We live in Oxford county Maine, I filmed this in the sky about 2 hours ago. Did anyone else see this? does anyone know what it was or is?"

"one lady said her friend told her it was a plane changing course and altitude"

"Have you found out what it was?"

"No kirk i haven't. I dont have a clue what it was"

Some more comments from another thread on my feed:

"Breaking !!!!! From the a East coast ..something is falling"

"I hope it's not the space station"

"Probably more biochemicals being released."

"A big meteor that fizzled out"

"Huh that's weird"

"It was falling faster then it was like it gained control and halted idk
u can tell measuring from the corner of the sign it quit falling. Is there a 2 footage?"

"Wow, interesting!"

"OMG, that thing is huge, even at that distance! There was talk that there would be left over material from that asteriod that broke apart back in Nov., of this last year."

"What the?"

And here's another:

"This is interesting! This video was shot a few hours ago here in Maine.. any ideas about what this mysterious thing in the sky could be?"

"Post it on your local news channel's page & ask. almost looks like a meteor, but not moving...? bizarre"

"so bizarre."

"i dont know"

"wtf"

"ive not seen this ... a ship ?"

"I have no clue... certainly does not look "normal""

"beats me"

"The not moving part is what puzzles me.At first, I thought "meteor"....then missile....then "wtf"?????"

"Weirddd.. Looks like a meteor at first... but, ahem.. ummm. meteors don't stop and hover..."

"maybe a chemplane dropped it's whole load at once. but it looks like fire to me....."

"Anyone know what happened to it??? Anyone reporting downed unidentified object???"

"I haven't heard any reasonable explanations yet? I posted it on my own page and sent it to a few friends.. everyone is clueless. nothing in the way of a local news report so far..? weird! I thought it looked kinda like a meteor at first but it seems to be moving so slowly or not at all.. perhaps some sort of flaming debris.."

"..possible an unusually large beginning or ending chemtrail dump? Possibly due in part to uneven weight or particulate distribution? Wind? Did you see it placed? Did you observe it for longer? If so, did clouds form or sky clear?~over"

I replied to all of them saying it was a fireball and that the trajectory can change from explosive shelling and included the recent article on the rise of fireball sightings. It's a bit shocking to see the level of ignorance... it's appears to be at a similar level as when humans saw these things before 'civilization'. On one hand it doesn't help that both the alternative or mainstream media hasn't covered the issue, but on the other hand since there is this rather large gap out there, it presents a big opportunity for people to share Sott's work on the subject. It might be worth joining various news groups to keep tabs on what is going on. As we see more and more of these things, people will have more and more questions.

It is truly amazing how ignorant the masses are. And yes, it would be a very useful service to keep an eye on such places and just help out with informational links if suitable. They don't even have to be to stuff sott carries, though we do try to keep our finger on the pulse of the major things.

Yeah, it's quite disconcerting to realize that most people, not only can't recognize a fireball (which can be understandable to some degree), but don't even think of mentioning it as a possibility. I mean, surely people in general should, at least, have an idea of what a fireball should/could look like, no?

Are they talking and showing fireballs on tv? No. People's lives are conformed by what tv says. If there is not on tv it not exists. And for the big, huge majority of people the sky does not exist, also. The Cosmos also is something that is not present in their lives. This is a terrible confirmation that humanity is lost when you are not aware that you are part of the cosmos. It is very sad!

Absolutely. I've seen scenes of certain tv shows that I used to watch just recently, you wouldn't believe the barefaced manipulation of the fireball phenomenon by them. Of course it's all innocent, it's the context of the show that allows for it. And apparently there's a lot of biblical-type movies arriving this year as well.

I'm always amazed (don't know why, but there you go) at the amount of people that just don't look up. Ever. Unless you point something out to them & stress it's importance, even then, it's sort of "touch & go".

You would be fortunate to find someone even remotely open to the concept of a living breathing interactive & dynamic universe. I agree, it is very sad & a great opportunity for the "final frontier" to be reached (the evolution of consciousness) looks like it will be missed.

And it's getting worse. In the last two months at least four people bumped into me in the streets, because ... they were looking into their smartphones! While walking

They wouldn't even recognize a fireball falling onto their heads.

It always amazed me how people here (Earth) are ignorant of anything beyond their surface (literally) awareness.
Even news from astronomy/space exploration/cosmology outlets generally are made in 'fairy tale' (infantile) style

Very true. Perhaps since the imposition of agriculture that people stopped looking at the sky to see what grows from the ground. While the fire is lit more and more, up there ( here!).
