I agree. I think he seems very happy. I look at him, I see his smile and his tail is moving happily. It is normal to feel concerned when you see that type of shows, specially when you see animals. I don't like, for example, circus. But we know that some circus treat very badly their animals, specially elephants. But this dog it seems to me that he likes to dance. Some dogs like dancing, you know. And be admired and cajoled. When a dog is unhappy you can feel it, by his ears or his body language.
Hi Loretta,
All circuses treat their animals very badly. Trucking wild animals around from place to place is bad treatment. Forcing them to live in tiny cages, never allowing them to put their feet on the earth, is bad treatment. Not allowing them to live in their natural family systems or exhibit any of their natural behaviors is bad treatment. Many circuses withhold food and/or water as reward/punishment. Forcing them to perform tricks against their nature is bad treatment. And even the most well funded of circuses, for example, Ringling Brothers in the USA, have been cited repeatedly for a multitude of infractions including, not providing adequate veterinary care and for using whips, chains, ropes, bullhooks, electrical shocking devices, baseball bats, ax handles, and metal pipes to get their animals to perform tricks that are so far out of the realm of their instinctive behaviors these implements of torture are the only ways they have to force compliance. The list of mistreatments/infractions is long, often bloody and often deadly.

I agree that dogs are different than wild animals and I don't know if this dog was mistreated. Standing on two legs for long periods of time is probably challenging for a dog but I am reminded of a two-legged dog that does just that to get around, so maybe in this case it is similar and the dog really doesn't mind.
