I don't know how it works. I'm still working out my understanding of humans and other beings that look like humans. As I've stated some in some other threads, I'm just not comfortable or convinced that other animals have no soul but I was being facetious about "nomination".
Just to make a distinction, it is not hypothesized that animals have no soul (or "organic portals" for that matter). It is that they have no individuated soul -- or rather, no potential to "individuate" -- as those who do not do the Work and become fully integrated and individualized (i.e. indivisable) at a higher level at the end of the process, are functionally no different than OP's (and 2D). They are born with the potential to develop an individuated soul, but if that potential isn't realized by long, super-efforts, they function the same as OP's.
