A few health issues of a loved one.

SMM

The Living Force
A person close to myself is asthmatic & has sinusitis to boot. He is sensitive to allergens, dust, climate, etc. To add insult to injury, he has sustained a few pinch nerves which cause temporary paralysis, tingling, numbness, etc. - mainly experienced in the upper & lower extremities - alongside heart palpitations, muscle cramps, tension headaches, body aches & so on.

I will update more on how it affects them daily in a while; mainly I wanted to pose the question (as my experience with asthma / sinusitis is limited - my family lineage is virtually free of respiratory-related autoimmune disorders), what can be done diet & health-wise to help? We are making steady changes i.e. elimination diet, FODMAP, paleo, ketoadaptation, etcetera, nevertheless in the naturopathic / alternative medicine sense, what may be beneficial?

I have recommended & provided supplementary essential vitamins & minerals, pre- / probiotics, though definitely deem it wiser for him to see his regional physician, GP, before implementing other (& generally more intense) protocols. A detox may definitely help (& is on the table for the future) though starting small for now.

They have been experiencing something of a Herxheimer reaction & restricted urinary flow (after a few days of Solgar's L-Glutamine, Magnesium / Calcium / Zinc Complex, Male Minerals Complex, Life Origins' Reduced Form Glutathione, with the occasional MSM & CoQ 10 supplements) though it has dissipated now, & they have been altering supplements taken accordingly.

I have been doing a bit of deep tissue / sports massage using a Comfrey, Arnica & Witchazel massage balm which has helped tremendously - especially when what I think is a herniated disc / trapped nerve between C1 & C3 spinal nerves (likely C2 from symptoms & upon physically examining the spine) flares & exacerbates their overall condition.

In the past 2 months or so of me being more aware of all these seemingly minor ailments, I am deeply concerned about their prognosis. It causes them great stress & strife also. I found myself crying after the thought of their potential demise :/

We were recently at our local A&E for 7+ hours a night before one of my exams because they were having severe difficultly breathing, losing sensation as a result of hypoxia, etc. Maybe an osteopath, rolfer, applied kinesiologist might help? There's Reiki too.

Who knows? I am forever looking into more information, knowledge, perusing papers & the resources available here & elsewhere as seeing someone who may make it worse, or irreversibly / irrecoverably impair them, plus cost a bomb, is ultimately an outcome best avoided. Thank you all earnestly :)

I'm sorry to hear that your friend is suffering so much SMM.

It sounds like there are probably a lot of things going on, with some initial things that I would suspect being along the lines of leaky gut, pathogens, toxin overload, and probably impaired organ function.

I would say that for complicated cases and people who have a lot of severe issues, it would be wise to seek help from a practitioner of one kind or another. Untangling complicated health issues can certainly be challenging and practitioners can provide quite a bit of valuable insight in the process.

As I've written elsewhere, I've dealt with a number of challenging health issues and the best practitioners that I've encountered thus far have been Applied Kinesiologists. This may especially be a more natural fit since your friend is having spine trouble and most Applied Kinesiologists are also chiropractors, so they're able to treat structural issues as well as issues related to organ function, pathogens, toxicity, etc (which may, in fact, even be related). If you or your friend haven't read it already, I wrote an extensive article on SOTT about my experience in working with Applied Kinesiologists:

https://www.sott.net/article/319266-SOTT-Exclusive-What-is-Applied-Kinesiology-and-what-can-it-do-for-you

It may take some research and trial to find a good one, so if you and your friend aren't impressed by one, then I would suggest trying another one to see if they seem better.

I would also suggest, regardless of the practitioner you see, to have some hypotheses that can be tested along with following the more traditional avenue of an open-ended inquiry with the practitioner to see what their perspective is. And be curious--ask a lot of questions and keep asking questions until you understand both the answers themselves and how they connect to the overall constellation of symptoms. I think ultimately, even with a good practitioner, you have to be your own health advocate and really persist to get to the bottom of what's going on.

Good luck and I hope your friend finds relief and a speed recovery! :flowers:

Thank you, Foxx :)

WRT asthma and sinusitis, they have found relief from symptoms when eating Goji berries (Wolfberries) or infusing drinks with them. They wish to stop taking Symbicort, a turbohaler, and perhaps an antioxidant in the berries is what helps gives them relief. At the same time they are sensitive to sulphites, which are high in Wolfberries. Sulphites commonly exacerbates their respiratory conditions. Maybe something in them is cancelling them out?

Tobacco smoke affects them a lot - they liken exposure to it to exposure to tear gas. Terrible experience.

Diet has helped significantly so far with the nerves. They feel much better overall. It might be worth testing for allergens. We are looking further into seeing an Applied Kinesiology soon in relation to the nerve issues.

I had upper respiratory tract disorders most of my life and apart from pinched nerves (but tingling, twitching etc.) all of above and more. Simply going gluten free and other alergens free (elimination diet) greatly reduced most of that. Heart palpitations only stopped with iodine - Lugol's. EE can also be helpful with controlling breathing.

Couple years ago, respiratory problems were so bad and continually agravating that I was sure the end was in sight. Then I tried reducing gluten. BAM, trouble free now. Gluten appeared to make me hypersensitive to common substance like mite dust ... Can still consume gluten but at low dose, past a specific threshold, respiratory problem come back.

Had also upper vertebra and articulation problem, reduction of gluten may have helped, but I attribute the benefit to something I now take and reduction of uric acid by taking malic acid.

It is good that your friend respond to massages which is indicative that he also could be a good respond to acupuncture which is very good for spinal nerve problems. I agree too with consult an applied Kinesiologist.
In my case sinusitis resolve when I eliminate dairy from my diet and I do work to remove stagnant or non processed emotions, but I don't know if he is open to that last kind of concept.
