A promise

Hello everyone.

I said I would keep in touch. And so I am. I had my second day on my job. I am a deli clerk at Tom Thumb ( otherwise known as Safeway). I wasn't to sure I wanted to do this but hay, its a job right! My problem lies in the fact that I am not used to greeting the public fors 5-8 hours. I have workied in a five client home for twelve years. So even with the Breathing, my first day was really stressful.
So last night when I went to bed, I did an extra long session of pipe breathing. And than I did some interesting work on myself. Please, anyone if you have tried this let me know how it worked with you. Or if what I am doing can potentially harm me. I can't see where it could but there is alot of experience on this forum.
Anyway, I had to deal with all those "I's". You know them, "I can't do this, you might as well quit now, people will see how stupid you are, you are going to be to slow..... " on and on. So I decided 1, every time I go outside, remember that you are IN THE MATRIX. Act accordingly. 2. When I am at work I am an actor on a stage. The senerio goes something like this. My little "I's" are parts of my self. They are allowed on stage if they are in charactor and they have the proper costume. Everytime one of them whines, is negative, or complains, they are kicked off the stage. ( I had to mentally tie one up in a chair off stage last night!) I am the "FRIENDLY DELI PERSON" That is my role. The better I perform my role, the more prizes and presants I get. ( pay check, good eval, bonus's, etc.) Each person I interact with is part of this play, and some are freindly, some are difficult and some are indifferent. I know occassionally the real nasty one will come out. Practice my part, Practice the lines that go with the main script: Greet the customer, engage the customer, sell the item, attempt to provide something to go along with what they buy, on and on. Some of you will know where this goes. Anyway, remember to stay in charactor and try to BREATH when you can. Talking and Pipe breathing don't work well.but during clean-ups and stocking are good times. It seemed to work wonderful today. I really started getting into my charactoir. This is very important because ZI found out on my first day that the administration will follow you around without you knowing and see if you greet the customer and offer help, and all that.It sounds pretty nasty, but its better to know "where and what they are up to instead of not knowing where the "Authority figures" are coming from. I can deal with that.

So after reading this does anyone have any positive criticism? Comments? Or have you tried this? I'm sure someone has.
I am so very glad I am practicing the Pipe breathing ( and the belly breathing).
Will post every few days or so.Will try to get caught up on doing some reading on the forum. And posting there to.
so all is well again. My thoughts and prayers go to all, that we all come through our trials tired but full of new knowledge.

Hi Tarri. For me, playing a role is both appropriate and necessary, osit. I see it as part of my Strategic Enclosure and related to the requirements of practicing External Consideration. I like the part about reminding yourself 'you're in the Matrix'. :)

I've absolutely done that (without the benefit of pipe breathing at the time). I worked retail management for almost a decade, quite some time ago and dealing with the public all day, every day, can either be incredibly draining or absolutely fascinating, depending on how you approach it mentally. If you play a role, and know you're playing a role, for a specific aim (to do your job well to have an income and satisfy others to the extent you can) it can be a lot of fun.

It is tiring though, especially the being on your feet part for 9 or 10 hours if you're not used to it, but your body adjusts. Just continue to use it as a school - observe yourself, observe the customers and soon you'll be responding to them exactly how they want you to before they even speak a word - sort of a mini course in seeing the unseen. When the curmudgeons come along, self-observe - that's a great stone on which to sharpen your internal sword, as it were. :)

Hi Tarri,

I think that's one of the best ideas I've heard in a long while! I also realised that I do something similar at work, but it's more of a mindset than anything else. Start with a smile and end with a thank you.

That's hilarious!! And it sounds like a lot of fun.

Thanks guys, for the imput. It was strange tying the "I" up, and it was alttle wierd feeling how very real the "I" seemed.
I have the luck (sometimes curse) of a vivid 3D in full color imagination. Comes in handy when reading. But somtimes it can be alittle un-nerving.

I spent 24 years on my feet in care homes and such. I have the feet to prove it. But I am getting help. Interestingly, my feet don't seem to be suffering to much yet. I wear pressure socks. My Sister (in law) wears them. That may be helping. I know my feet and legs don't swell like they tend to do.
I am looking forward to the day when I will be able to respond quickly, without thinking much about what I am going to say. I don't intend to stay in deli. I do like being in the public I am finding as I get more chances to interact and work on myself. We will see what comes in the next year or so. Thanks again. If any more interesting "I" interactions come up, I'll post them. They are so unpredictable.
Oh, I changed my picture. I decided on the DNA. It's the actual picture of it sliced. I felt the DNA was appropriate as this is what I am trying to activate, with all the hard work.
Night everyone. Tarri

Yes, this is something I have done. From the sounds of it, it seems you are doing some good observation and work on the self. You may soon discover a more sociable 'I' hidden amongst the other ones. ;) It's definitely a great test in controlling negative emotions and external consideration.

I was going to start a 'wee' thread about my experiences in DOing the work in a retail environment as that is where I earn my income... I probably will later when my mind is clearer. :)

Every day think as much as I can with regards to the work in relation to my job. I make coffee and serve the public for about 8 hours of the day and let me tell you it is a fantastic way of observing yourself and your programmes, along with others, dealing with 'difficult' customers and my reaction to them I.e ( My ego was offended that they were rude to me...or was it something I could have been more externally considerate on...osit)

Apologies if this is just clutter and doesn't add anything. I was wondering if it would be of value to anyone if I started a sort of a 'diary' thread where I'd write down all the intresting tidbits down that I have observed? Maybe we could share experiences and data and come to a kind of 'helpful guide' for people working in a retail enviroment? Perhaps it would help in at least some way :)

Anyway just thought I'd throw my 2 pence out there! :P

It's not going to hurt. Either that or start a journal. you'll get feedback here though! :)

As stated by other members your approach seems to be the right one.

If you have a "be nice" program it might be a perfect opportunity to use it consciously.

It would be a good example of using a program to your advantage and to reach your goal instead of being used by a program with all the detrimental effects we know.

Good luck for this interesting adventure! :)

Great thread Tarri, really useful on a daily basis, you put it in very practical terms. I too have reminded myself that I am in the matrix. I too have often reminded myself to act accordingly. And I have been looking at my roles in daily life.
The way you put it is brilliant! I now am actually looking forward to my role as the courteous driver stuck in traffic. Or the understanding customer who doesnt mind being asked every day if I would like some Taquitos to go along with my purchase, even though I say "no thanks, I'm good" every day he ask's me the same question.
Thank-you, very helpful, and yes no talking during pipe breathing, unless your doing an impression of Darth Vader.... then it comes in handy...lol.. best wishes in your new job too!
Cheers
