A song for Pepperfritz

I am very surprised with the intensity of emotions I feel with the sad news of Victoria's departure. Although virtual community it seems that ties of this network run much deeper then we are aware of.
Here is the song I like to dedicate to all kindred spirits who have left 3D. I am playing it for Victoria now.

Into The West

Lay down,
your sweet and weary head.
Night is falling.
You have come to journey’s end.

Sleep now, and dream
of the ones who came before.
They are calling,
from across a distant shore.

Why do you weep?
What are these tears upon your face?
Soon you will see.
All of your fears will pass away.
Safe in my arms,
you’re only sleeping.

What can you see,
on the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?
Across the sea,
a pale moon rises.
The ships have come,
to carry you home.

And all will turn,
to silver glass.
A light on the water.
All souls pass.

Hope fades,
Into the world of night.
Through shadows falling,
Out of memory and time.

Don’t say,
We have come now to the end.
White shores are calling.
You and I will meet again.
And you’ll be here in my arms,
Just sleeping.

What can you see,
on the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?
Across the sea,
a pale moon rises.
The ships have come,
to carry you home.

And all will turn,
to silver glass.
A light on the water.
Grey ships pass
Into the West.

I'm posting this for all of us to contemplate the enormous loss of Victoria and to give us all something to think about:

If Today Was Your Last Day
By Nickelback

My best friend gave me the best advice
He said each day’s a gift and not a given right
Leave no stone unturned, leave your fears behind
And try to take the path less traveled by
That first step you take is the longest stride

If today was your last day
and tomorrow was too late
Could you say goodbye to yesterday?
Would you live each moment like your last?
Leave old pictures in the past
Donate every dime you have?
If today was your last day

Against the grain should be a way of life
What’s worth the prize is always worth the fight
Every second counts ’cause there’s no second try
So live like you’ll never live it twice
Don’t take the free ride in your own life

If today was your last day
and tomorrow was too late
Could you say goodbye to yesterday?
Would you live each moment like your last?
Leave old pictures in the past
Donate every dime you have?
Would you call old friends you never see?
Reminisce of memories
Would you forgive your enemies?
Would you find that one you’re dreamin’ of?
Swear up and down to God above
That you finally fall in love
If today was your last day

If today was your last day
Would you make your mark by mending a broken heart?
You know it’s never too late to shoot for the stars
Regardless of who you are
So do whatever it takes
‘Cause you can’t rewind a moment in this life
Let nothin’ stand in your way
Cause the hands of time are never on your side

If today was your last day
and tomorrow was too late
Could you say goodbye to yesterday?

Would you live each moment like your last?
Leave old pictures in the past
Donate every dime you have?
Would you call old friends you never see?
Reminisce of memories
Would you forgive your enemies?
Would you find that one you’re dreamin’ of?
Swear up and down to God above
That you finally fall in love
If today was your last day

I'm posting this for all of us to contemplate the enormous loss of Victoria and to give us all something to think about:

I'll second that with another song:

Le jour s'est levé (Day has begun) by Téléphone

Le jour s'est levé
The day has begun

Sur une étrange idée
...with a strange idea

Je crois que j'ai rêvé
...I believe that I dreamt

Que ce soir je mourrais
...That, tonight, I would die

Le jour s'est levé
...The day has begun

Plein de perplexité
...Full of dismay

Si ce n'était pas un rêve
...What if it wasn't a dream

Qu'il faille s'en aller
...That I had to go

S 'en aller
...To go

Comme le jour avançait
...As the day went by

En moi je pensais
...I thought to myself

Si ce n'était pas un rêve
...If it wasn't a dream

J'ai tout à aimer
...I should love everything

Quand le jour s'est couché
...When the sun set

J'ai réalisé
...I realised

Que ce n'était qu'une trêve
...It was but a breach

Dans ma réalité
...In my reality

Nous sommes ici pour croire
...We are here to believe

Rien d'autre à laisser croire
...Nothing else to let believe

Croire que l'on meurt ce soir
...To believe that one dies tonight

Pour qui veux bien voir
...For whoever wants to see

Le voile est levé
...The veil is lifted

Sur ma pauvreté
...on my poverty

Qu'ai-je donc à garder
...So what can I cling to

Qui ne sera soufflé
...That won't be blown away?

Oui, le voile est levé
...Yes, the veil is lifted

Tout est si coloré
...Everything is so colourful

Qu'ai-je donc à donner
...So what can I give

Qui ne sera soufflé
...That won't be blown away

Nous sommes ici pour croire
...We are here to believe

Rien d'autre à laisser croire
...Nothing else to let believe

Croire que l'on meurt ce soir
...To believe that one dies tonight

Et qu'il est déjà tard
...And that it is late already

Déjà tard
...Late already
Mais pas trop tard

...But not too late

A toi de voir
Up to you to see

A toi de croire
Up to you to believe

Le jour s'est levé
...The day has begun

Sur cette étrange idée
...with this strange idea

La vie n'est qu'une journée
...Life is but a single day

Et la mort qu'une nuit
...And death but one night

La vie n'est ajournée
...Life is not postponed

Que si la mort lui nuit
...Unless it is harmed by death

Thanks for finding that, CM. I read the words first then watched the video and I'm losing it now... (in a good way).

Thanks Carcosa- I do not know that group Téléphone and it is a beautiful song and lyrics.

CM- Annie Lennox is one of my favorites. Somehow she infuses an extra level of feeling into everything she does- even though this song does not sound like much of her earlier stuff. Thanks for the song!

Thank you for starting this thread Corto Maltese. This song is dedicated to an angel among us, Pepperfritz.

Where are the Angels by Eivør Pálsdóttir

You gave it all away you took me home
Pearl in the pale moonlight your skin shone
Then you whispered in my ear good sleep my friend
All our love is given and our hearts will mend

We saw that crazy king again with his lies and fear and shame
He was talking about genocide and learning everybodies name
Has he really always been this way full of hopeless tomorrows
He's stolen the sacred key and locked men in sorrow

Where are the angels
Where are the angels

This old dirt road this grey sky day
Sometimes the world gets old and I feel so insane
Then you whisper in my ear it's ok my friend
All our love is given and our hearts will mend

This song resonated with me the most when I think of Pepperfritz. Although there are no lyrics, I think Aaron Zigman has composed a really beautiful piece. I find it really beautiful and relaxing:

Another song to Victoria from Dream Theater: The Spirit Carries On

Nicholas:
Where did we come from,
Why all here?
Where do we go when we die?
What lies beyond
And what lay before?
Is anything certain in life?

They say, "Life is too short,"
"The here and the now"
And "You're only given one shot"
But could there be more,
Have I lived before,
Or could this be all that we've got?

If I die tomorrow
I'd be all right
Because I believe
That after we're gone
The spirit carries on

I used to be frightened of dying
I used to think death was the end
But that was before
I'm not scared anymore
I know that my soul will transcend

I may never find all the answers
I may never understand why
I may never prove
What I know to be true
But I know that I still have to try

If I die tomorrow
I'd be all right
Because I believe
That after we're gone
The spirit carries on

Victoria:
"Move on, be brave
Don't weep at my grave
Because I am no longer here
But please never let
Your memory of me disappear"

Nicholas:
Safe in the light that surrounds me
Free of the fear and the pain
My questioning mind
Has helped me to find
The meaning in my life again
Victoria's real
I finally feel
At peace with the girl in my dreams
And now that I'm here
It's perfectly clear
I found out what all of this means

If I die tomorrow
I'd be all right
Because I believe
That after we're gone
The spirit carries on

Another song to Victoria from Dream Theater: The Spirit Carries On

Brilliant song!!! From a Brilliant album!!!

I am not sure how familiar you are with where this song came from, but it is part of a concept album. The story is about a man who's previous life has started to bleed through and he has been having dreams and vague memories that haunt him. He goes under hypnosis and eventually through his inner search, he discovers that he was Victoria, in another life.

She had been part of a love triangle; married to a man who had neglected her, and cheating on him with his brother. The entire album is this process of remembering the details that led up to, and then ended in a murder-suicide; and further, about how coming to understand this previous life informed our subject's perspective about his current life and the eventuality of death.

Dramatic story and amazing music. I am sure that, even though 'our' Victoria may not have led such a controversial life, she would no doubt appreciate the relationship this song has to the act of conscious, self discovery.

Where ever you are, Victoria .... you still ARE.

(edit: I read your post just before I went to bed last night, and woke up with this song going through my mind. Naturally, I had to bust out the CD and listen to it on the way to work :)

Listening to U all... ahhhh it's beautiful to take in. I didn't know this person (as I recall). May I add something for U all as well...

An elegant song won't hold up long
When the palace falls and the parlour's gone
We all must leave but it's not the end
We'll meet again at the festival of friends.
Smiles and laughter and pleasant times
There's love in the world but it's hard to find
I'm so glad I found you -- I'd just like to extend
An invitation to the festival of friends.
Some of us live and some of us die
Someday God's going to tell us why
Open your heart and grow with what life sends
That's your ticket to the festival of friends.
Like an imitation of a good thing past
These days of darkness surely will not last
Jesus was here and he's coming again
To lead us to his festival of friends.
Black snake highway -- sheet metal ballet
It's just so much snow on a summer day
Whatever happens, it's not the end
We'll meet again at the festival of friends.

Hi scazd, since you appear to be new to the forum, could you post a brief introduction in the Newbies thread? Just let us know how you found the forum, what you've read thus far as far as the material is concerned, that sort of thing. Thanks, and welcome!

I've been listening to some old albums recently in my car, and this song just seemed to fit so I'd like to add it to the dedications.

Its by an Icelandic group (I like a lot of Icelandic music) called Sigur Ros.

The lyrics may not do it justice, this is one you have to hear to get it (I don't speak Icelandic but what is conveyed in the music seems more important).

Lyrics to Glósóli :
Nú vaknar þú
Allt virðist vera breytt
Eg gægist út
En er svo ekki neitt
Ur-skóna finn svo
A náttfötum hún
I draumi fann svo
Eg hékk á koðnun?

Með sólinni er hún
Og er hún, inni hér

En hvar ert þú....

Legg upp í göngu
Og tölti götuna
Sé ekk(ert) út
Og nota stjörnurnar
Sit(ur) endalaust hún
Og klifrar svo út.

Glósóli-leg hún
Komdu út

Mig vaknar draum-haf
Mitt hjartað, slá
Ufið hár.

Sturlun við fjar-óð
Sem skyldu-skrá.

Og hér ert þú...

Fannst mér.....

Og hér ert þú
Glósóli.....

Og hér ert þú
Glósóli.....

Og hér ert þú
Glósóli.....

Og hér ert þú

English Translation

Lyrics to Glowing Sun (Bright Sun) :

Now that you're awake
Everything seems different
I look around
But there's nothing at all

Put on my shoes, I then find that
She is still in her pyjamas
Then found in a dream
I'm hung by (an) anticlimax

She is with the sun
And it's out here

But where are you...

Go on a journey
And roam the streets
Can't see the way out
And so use the stars
She sits for eternity
And then climbs out

She's the glowing sun
So come out

I awake from a nightmare
My heart is beating
Out of control…

I've become so used to this craziness
That it's now compulsory

And here you are...

I'm feeling...

And here you are,
Glowing sun...

And here you are,
Glowing sun...

And here you are,
Glowing sun...

And here you are...

RedFox, I am a very big fan of Sigur Ros. They have some of the most sweet, mellow and compelling sounds any band has ever created IMO. I definitely think they are fitting in this thread. :)
