A Summary of what you should not eat...

A Disturbance in the Force
Hi,

my name is michael, im 18 years old, I live in germany and I still go to school.
I came across the Wave topic and Laura about 2 years ago and been doing researches since.
A while ago I came to this forum and saw the threads about foot & health and how it affects our brain and vitality.
Now I have the problem that Im determined to do a change of my meal plan because what i was eating until now was not very well thought out but
I just cant afford to buy only certified products/vegetables and meat from wich I actually know where its from/what it gets fed with, because I live on social money and have to handle my own household, and Its really hard for me as a non native speaker to go through all these topics and to find the information I need to know what I can buy instead or whats not that that evil in my opinion.
So I´m asking you if someone could just give me some good links or advice where I can find out which food is actually dangerous and wich ones depend on me personally or maybe a list of products that contain dangerous contents wich I can take with me while shopping to look at and say "Ok thats what I should not buy, ahh thats what I could buy but not that often and thats what is aktually ok".
I hope this is not to much I demand from you for my first post and as far as that I want to thank Laura and the peole from this site and Sot for their great work and the inspiration youre giving other people , including me, on this place.
I hope ive done everything properly so far.

Well, we've looked into a lot of "bio" meat on the market and the truth is, most of it is just as bad as the regular products. Also, many of the "health food/alternative diet" companies are just branches of the big agri-business corporations.

What we do is buy most of our meat from our local butcher who gets it from local farms. The price is only slightly higher than we would pay in the supermarket, and in some cases, lower. When I ask for ground meat with added fat, he reduces the price accordingly since nobody else is buying the fat!

For the few veggies we eat, we just buy frozen for quick meals and whatever we may pick up fresh at the local bio store which buys from local bio farms. Since we don't eat dairy of any kind, that's not an issue.

Are there a list of vegetables which don't have anti nutrients or lectins.

I've been on a strictly meat diet for about 3 - 4 weeks now, but I still don't know what I should add in?

I've cut everything out to be safe and also as a detox.

Also I'm taking magnesium daily.

Most lectins are contained in seeds. So anything that is a seed or contains seeds that are mature should be specially treated to eat it or avoided.

Your best bet is to READ READ READ the recommended books on the topic. There are many details that should be understood before embarking on any dietary changes. Not everyone is the same and some people have special conditions!

Hello,

I've got The Vegetarian Myth and Life Without Bread on order.

Do these 2 books pretty much cover it?

What other supplements are recommended though, I'm using magnesium, I have 5-HTP but not sure if that is needed and I often take Melatonin.

Hi, RBB.

Glad you've decided to start posting on the forum. :)

We ask that members post a short introduction in the newbies section of the forum so we can get to know a little about you. Nothing too personal, pretty much what you've posted here with maybe a little more about your background, books you've read, research your interested in, etc. Don't worry about your language skills, you're English is just fine. :)

Also MUST read: "The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living" by Volek and Phinney. The details are there. Just ignore their acceptance of dairy and some toxic substances such as boullion cubes that have MSG. They deal with the fat metabolism issues and that is what is important.

When I lived with my mother we bought food for the local butcher with fresh chicken and meat, and from local stores selling veggies. Then I came with my father (to the north of Mexico) and everything was in package, even the veggies sold like nuggets from mcdonalds, the difference was that I turned thin, and with my mother I was a little chubby :P

But as is in some SOTT articles, the problem was not that I ate lot of organic meat and fat, it was that I was addicted to fray chips, soda, cookies etc etc, that thanks god I left.

When I ask for ground meat with added fat

I have a question since I don't fully understand what GROUND MEAT is.
Is it just a name for meat that comes from cattle ?

Ground meat is raw meat that has been masticated, as in a meat grinder. In U.S. it's called hamburger.

First, welcome to the forum RBB :)

At least the French seem to be still active on the local produce level without to much government intervention. It is getting so very frustrating here, for the consumer, for the farmer. Our butchers generally now only buy from sanctioned government Abattoir’s who have to meet ridiculous standards (in collusion with the big packing houses to cut out the little guy – based on the prior Bovine scares). Local meats, if they are offered, must be brought to a sanctioned facility, which cost a great deal. So when and where these meats are offered, they are very expensive. It was not long before that local purchases could be brought directly to any local butcher. The other thing i’ve noticed, not unlike what you said Laura about added fat, is that most of the meat anywhere one goes is so very lean, and when asked, the butcher said people just don’t want the fat anymore and so they cut it off and throw it away or use a small amount in sausage – what a waste. Lard is not even picked up anymore by others for lard based products.

Well so basically I should stick to eating a lot of meat & animal fats , (i have a friend working in a private butchershop wich is getting the meat from local farmers, think that should be pretty save as well they put nothing thats not neccessary into their sausages and ground meat) veggies & fruits and stay away of dairy, industrial sugar and corn/seed-made stuff?
I´m also looking forward to order at least one of the books, wich one you think I should start with or wich is the one with most of the basic information and except of that are there articles ,maybe on Sott, from wich i can find out more to this topic maybe the one Brunauld was refering to?
Also I thank you for your quick replies, sorry if I may seem lazy to search the information on my own Im just not sure what exactly to read as there are so many threads on this topic and I just want to go sure that Im not going into something wrong while overseeing the main thing, I dont know much about food and what an organism actually needs to be healthy since I ate a lot of fastfood/prepacked food and drank tons of cola in the past few years but Im actually willing to change that :D And should I do a detox if im not suffering any health problems (except a lil too much bodyfat) ?

Afaik, the two main things are heavy metals and parasites.

In regards to how you feel on junk food and so on, you don't know how bad you feel/felt till you actually stop for a while.

The other day I also read an interview with someone who works at Mcdonalds, you would never eat there again if you knew how your food and drinks are treated.

Regardless of the low quality.

If you knew what they do to your food at most fast food and even expensive restaurants you would never eat there again. I have worked at and quit several of these jobs because I refused to change dates on products and many other disgusting things that are done every day.
