Addiction!

Why do so many of us have that void?

In my opinion, we all subconsciousless have a desire to return to the oneness many call god.

That void, or something missing each human feels, is the longing to return to the one source from whence we splintered off from.

At one time it is said, we were all a part of a single grand whole, and chose to splinter apart into many entities for a physical experience and some how have lost our way back to the original source.

I think on one one hand addictions are used to distract and control us.

Our addictions are also a way to comfort ourselves. Cushion ourselves from such a harsh reality.

Personally, I have a few addictions and my lessons for this life time around is to learn control and moderation.

Better to make slow progress than no progress at all
. It's a continuous battle and everyone has some addiction.

This entire thread has been most helpful to me. Many insightful perspectives.

This was a most important post, thanks Luke for having the courage to ask those questions and spill your feelings. I so related to you in your initial posts.

Also, thanks Bud, you are fast becoming (in my eyes) a massive wealth of guidance, I can't thank you enough.

The whole idea of recapitulation is daunting to me, and I am trying to work out why I keep putting it off other than I don't know how to start it. I have read ISOTM, and of course, A S of Infinity, but am wondering whether I need to read Gnosis first before trying Recap. I can not answer why I can not start the recap yet, maybe because I can not connect to my childhood memories, or maybe I just know way too many people, I don't know. Could it be that I have not fully detoxed or am not doing the EE routinely enough and my subconscious is saying I am not ready? :/

But anyway, thanks

Recapitulation can get fairly involved but it's easy enough to start. Just start where you are, really paying attention to everything. Try to be consciously attentive to everything as if you were going to have to go over your entire day when you go to bed. Then, the first night, or whenever it's convenient, start remembering everything about your day, remembering your experiences and looking for what you've learned or can learn from your experiences of the day.

The next day, repeat the procedure, really paying attention to every detail of the day with the intention of remembering as much as you can. During the day, try to notice how everything that happened yesterday naturally leads to what is happening today. If you must wait to do this recap at night, then just do a daily recap and try to notice how everything that happened today connects to yesterday.

With practice, you can recap on the fly, thinking in such a way that every day seems like the same perpetual day, with just ongoing cycles of earth going around sun along with your sleep cycles.

It will get easier with practice. Soon you will want to start thinking about specific events in your life and recapping them, trying to remember every little detail that you can while trying to extract the lesson from your experience.

At some point along the way, remembering becomes faster. What is happening is that the more you take ownership of all your experiences and the lessons available to you, the better your memory will get. IOW, the more of your life you can take responsibility for, the more will come to you. (I don't mean in terms of "taking blame", rather, I mean in terms of just accepting your experiences or letting your experiences be a part of you.)

It's an automatic process as I experience it, so use that to your advantage and try not to rush things. That only increases stress and makes remembering harder. Don't forget to take time to laugh once in awhile! :)

Hi Bud,
I know this is coming some time after you wrote this, but I wanted to share with you and others that I have noticed a cycle that goes over about 4 weeks give or take , and I wonder if it is also related to addiction. It's all about my commitment to self observation, diet, etc, where I notice that the commitment is strong then fades and usually by 4 weeks it has gone, and then I have to start again with the kick up the bum, then the motivation to commit again, and on it goes. Is the addiction to the comfort zone the biggest culprit here, and also, does the fact that I have now observed this cycle going to make it different next time, maybe lasting a bit more than a few weeks?
