Taliban Officials Interviewed At Afghan Presidential Palace Following Reports Of Explosions In Kabul (Videos, Photos)Support SouthFront PDF Download 15.08.2021 Snip Opening:
Late on August 15, senior officials of the Taliban spoke to the Al Jazeera from the personal office of former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani in the Presidential Palace in the capital, Kabul.

A few hours earlier, the Taliban entered Kabul. The group’s fighters took over the city that was abandoned by government forces. The group said that the step is meant to “prevent chaos and theft” in the capital.

One of the officials told Al Jazeera that all government buildings in Kabul are now under the control of Taliban fighters. The official went on to assure Afghan officials as well as army and security commanders that their safety will be guaranteed by the group.
“We entered here after twenty years of fighting foreign forces, and we preferred that Kabul be handed over peacefully,” the official said.
Another official of the Taliban, the central security commander, revealed that the group’s leadership is preparing to return to Kabul from Qatar.

The interview was held following reports of explosions near the Presidential Palace, the US Embassy and in other parts of Kabul. Some sources speculated that the explosions may have been the result of US strikes.

While Al Jazeera was airing the interview, Ghani, who reportedly arrived in Oman, issued a statement saying that he chose to resign from his position in order to prevent bloodshed. The former President claimed that the Taliban was preparing a large attack on Kabul.

Meanwhile, the situation in Kabul Airport remains chaotic. The US military announced that all commercial flights from and to the airport were suspended. Military evacuation is, however, still ongoing. Earlier, shots were reportedly fired at US troops evacuating American diplomats and citizens via the airport.

The future of Afghanistan seems uncertain. While many sources said that a plan to form an interim government is being finalized, sources close to the Taliban said that the group will soon announce the return of the “Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan”.

The Taliban's peaceful entry into Kabul, the amnesty and the guarantee of peace reminded me of the conquest of Makkah and signaled to the technologically advanced powers around the world that no power can stand before the power of faith provided it is ready for any sacrifice. I wish we and the world of Islam could learn from this miracle

15 Aug 2021 Opening Snip:
President Joe Biden will remain hidden at his presidential retreat at Camp David through Monday, according to the White House, as the Taliban swiftly seized control of Afghanistan.

The president’s daily guidance for Monday indicated Biden would remain at Camp David for at least one more day, with no public events scheduled.

But a senior administration official indicated to reporters Sunday evening that Biden might address the country “in the next few days,” according to reports.

It remains unclear whether Biden will speak from Camp David or return to the White House to deliver his speech, the reports noted. He was previously scheduled to remain at Camp David until Wednesday.

Biden has not spoken publicly on Afghanistan since Tuesday after expressing optimism that the leaders of the Afghan government would rally to defend their country.

“I think they’re beginning to realize they’ve got to come together politically at the top,” he said, referring to the leaders of Afghanistan.

President of Afghanistan left the country after the Taliban radical militant group started to take control of government buildings
MOSCOW, August 16. /TASS/. President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani fled Afghanistan aboard a helicopter packed with money, the Russian embassy in Kabul told TASS on Monday.

"As for the reasons of the collapse of the regime, they are characterized by how Ghani fled the country. Four cars were packed with money, and they tried to cram another bag of cash into the helicopter. Not all the cash managed to squeeze in, and some of the money was left lying on the airfield," a mission employee said.

The fighters of the Taliban radical militant group (outlawed in Russia) entered Kabul without encountering any resistance on Sunday and started to take control of government buildings, the Al Arabiya TV Channel reported. President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani left the country. The Taliban later announced that it had established control of all the districts in the Afghan capital.

US officials say seven people have died at Kabul airport, including some who fell from a departing American transport plane. Meanwhile, flights out of the Afghan capital have been interrupted by crowds on the runway.
The death toll was reported by the Associated Press on Monday, citing US officials. Throughout Sunday night, US troops brought in to protect the evacuation of American diplomats and workers struggled to keep hundreds of desperate Afghans off the runway at Kabul’s Hamid Karzai Airport, which is now the only lifeline between Taliban-controlled Afghanistan and the outside world.
US troops killed two gunmen at the airport, a Pentagon official stated later on Monday, adding that there was "no indication" that they were Taliban fighters. One American troop was injured, he added.

A number of men had clung to a US military transport plane as it took off, but fell to their deaths shortly after takeoff. Their horrifying plunge to the ground below was captured on camera, with the footage shared on social media.

Commercial flights out of Kabul were suspended on Sunday, but droves of people crowded onto the airport’s single runway regardless, in a last-ditch bid to catch a flight out of the capital.

American troops struggled to hold back the crowds overnight, and reports surfaced of volleys of gunfire and of stampedes breaking out.
Taliban fighters are also attempting to keep crowds back from the airport, per multiple reports.

Hordes of people have still managed to scale the fence surrounding the airport, and video footage shows crowds packing the tarmac and climbing atop parked commercial planes.

Military flights were leaving the airport earlier on Monday, but the Pentagon later put a halt to them out of "an abundance of caution," a spokesman said. US and international troops were working to clear the runway of people so that flights could resume, he added.
The rush to the airport began on Sunday, when Taliban militants entered Kabul, and the ousted US-backed president, Ashraf Ghani, left the country. With the capital now under Taliban control, American and some other foreign diplomats and workers made for the airport, along with thousands of Afghan citizens looking for an escape to the West.

As oft already said, its 1975 groundhog day - with nothing learned in between.

And of course news porn to burn. They've been starved of such an epoch defining historical moments of late they can't but help going overboard with their image saturated coverage of carnage breaking out - and at the same time roundly avoiding all the real issues.

Evacuation flights halted after US soldiers shoot dead two armed Afghans while three are run over by taxiing military jets, and more plunge to their deaths after clambering on the fuselage - as UN say Taliban have started 'targeted killings'

At the moment all I can think is God help all those people in Kabul who have made the same mistake as so many others before them - believing they can trust Uncle Sam to stick by them to the end and thereby siding with their people's enemy. Unless someone steps in it seems a bloodbath of some scale is inevitable.

And I assume this chaos erupting on China and Russia's doorsteps is the final pay day for the psychopaths who made this evolving human tragedy come into being as they apparently panic exit stage left... knowing what this disorderly retreal would set in motion.

Utterly contemptible.

I wasn't even alive in '75, but those photos do mark a striking resemblance don't they?

It helps the resemblance that they still fly those same helicopters. They didn't spend that trillion on choppers that's for sure.

Man, how did these guys hold out for 20 years and come out swinging like this?

American PTB has been so humiliated it's beyond words - all those bombs and 20 year occupation didn't do squat. Like was anything achieved other than to make the situation worse?

Biden the doofus will probably find a way to weasel vaccines into his address today. But seriously, this is meant to be the most popular US president of all time? Like I'll be feeling ashamed if I was the CIA and other 3 letter agencies. I'd be thinking we're becoming a laughing stock and have been reduced to the marketing arm of the pharmaceutical companies. It doesn't look good regardless of the inner machinations and the idea that everything is always part of a plan... looks like a resounding and humiliating defeat.

Hmmm. Wonder how he will spend all that cash. I remember stories about the Shah leaving Iran with Gold. I understand it was used to develop Tyson's Corner, and very good ROI.
Getting some flashbacks of the heartbreaking situation in mid 70s.

It's like "They" always telegraph this activity on the screen before hand.
Joe and Niall's outstanding analysis gives much necessary context to the smoke and mirrors.
The Chinese connection analysis that Joe and Niall researched and shared was eye-opening. I never saw it coming.
Agree the show has lots of detail's within the silky fabric of reality.
