I do not wear a seatbelt. I used to, though. But, mainly out of being stubborn because IT IS THE LAW, and because of, as others have said, there are very definitely times where it is much better to be able to get out of the way...fast, I now usually do not buckle up.
There are times when I see a lot of cops that I will buckle up for protection, but not because of an accident, but because of the likelihood of being pulled over and having to pay a healthy fine.
As has been said, there is just too much "control for your own good" going on and people can't see that it will just keep getting worse until we have no choices left. osit.
On the subject of motorcycle helmets. They do give "some" protection. But they also greatly reduce peripheral vision and hearing. My husband has a friend that was in a motorcycle accident and was wearing a helmet. He was not killed because of the helmet, but was left mentally damaged. He is a vegetable. So which is the worse-case scenario is up to each individual. But choices are not available.
