I am really tired to see in the media the relation they make AIDS=black people. If you pay attention you will see that they just show people from Africa, specially women and children, when talking about AIDS. This is disgusting and this is racism. I am shock.

Specially when in Spain they just wanted to put a new law concerning prisoners that have AIDS: they will have to pay for their medication and their food in the prison. And immigrants with AIDS or cancer will have to pay for their treatments.

But in the medias AIDS is something remote, coming from Africa and Africans are the culprits for AIDS, it seems to me that this is the message. Terrible. Specialists, in those commercials, are always white people. Because what they do is a commercial, nothing more than that. No information at all.

This is racism, this is a lie and this is disgusting to provoke fear for black people who are "contaminated". I am tired of all this world.

Actually Loreta, if what you say is correct and this commercial is running during the time they are trying to pass that law then subconscious implications and steering are not just racial .

The implication of Africa also matches with the immigrant portion of the bill.


It induces black/white thinking and leads the viewer to not only draw this line, but to not associate the disease with anyone of Spanish decent or locale. Viewed enough times passively, it sets the stage for a vote for the bill . That is also why there is no information at all. The message is subliminal for a reason. Therefore, I think that it is not just about race.

What I was trying to point out is that even though racism is something that you may feel and respond to, look at the themes present and how they are presented to see what other story they are telling, and also what they are leaving out. These images are aimed at the subconscious , and without an active third force, there is particular message they are trying to penetrate the mind with. It usually is not blatant racism. Questions to ask are what two things are they contrasting? Who is hero or villian? (good vs evil ) What colors are being represented by opposing themes and what do they represent? What is the call to action they are asking for? what is the excluded middle? If no call to action, what impression are they trying to get me to perceive, or what conclusion is the obvious one I am to draw?
