Read the article and THEN read the comments!

I came across this article earlier today and did not know what to make of it. It seemed so incongruous to everything else on that site which just seemed like news.

Then I thought, "Lies mixed with truth". Pure Cointelpro.

What amazed me is that the conspiracy theories they listed aren't the most whacky out there - they're the ones with the most evidence to support them. Minus the David Icke Reference, I feel like they threw that in as a sorta jab:

"Well if you believe 9-11 was an inside job then you're crazy enough to believe our leaders are shape-shifting reptilians!"

Though calling psychopaths shape-shifting reptiles isn't that far from the truth, when taken figuratively.

Just to be clear, I don't necessarily think these women are cointelpro, but the effect of ignorance is pretty much the same thing. They are just ignorant I think.

As silly as they can sound, there's something to be said for learning about conspiracy theories. They can offer totally new and unexpected ways of looking at events, even if you don't believe them to be accurate. And if anything, they at least suggest that as crazy and ludicrous as our ideas and beliefs feel at times, there's always someone out there who takes it one step further -- unless you're one of the ones who believe in shape-shifting reptilian overlords … sorry, but you might just take the cake.

There have been cases, I seem to remember, where a sceptic has set out to prove that a certain 'conspiracy theory' is sheer bunkum, only to find, after sifting through all the evidence and documents available, that the theory is correct, and have themselves become converts to the cause, as it were. As soon as I remember the examples I'm thinking of :-[, I'll post them!

I don't believe the one about Elvis though.

I'm an example... I sure didn't believe anything in Gary Allen's "None Dare Call it Conspiracy" and set out to prove that it was all evil defamation.

And here we are today.

I also thought that the whole topic of aliens and UFOs was ridiculous...

I too believe the writers are just ignorant of the truth, or unwilling to be open-minded at least. Some of the people that commented sound down right insulted as well. As soon as we start to believe that we know it all, we end up showing just how ignorant we truly are!

Alternet is one of the few sites I visit besides SOTT for news. As the C's say, you can't take anything at face value. The close-mindedness of some people is staggering though. I work with a Muslim who refuses to entertain the possibility of "aliens" because Allah stated that humans were given dominion over all living creatures.
