An odd rash of stabbings

I've checked out all the articles added so far, and would actually propose that most be removed, simply because they are too "normal" to be considered a "sign of the times." Again I would stress, that the increase in stabbings in general is indeed a sign of the times, but perhaps a bit to broad of a general subject to try and track in this article/forum topic. If at least a quarter million people are stabbed every year, then perhaps we should just focus on the most bizarre incidents, that are suggestive of something else altogether taking place.

Good points Jason. I'll run it by the Sott crew...

Ok, the list has been updated.

I do think it's awesome that people are doing research and collectively helping to add to this data - but I also think it's important to set a standard of what articles are being included as "fitting this unusual pattern." Unfortunately, just being stabbed in an argument (by someone with a history of stabbing people during arguments); being stabbed in a bar fight; being stabbed by a group of gang members, someone breaking into a house and stabbing someone, someone turning up dead in a field that has been stabbed - without any other signs of truly odd and unexplainable behavior, these events most likely have somewhat normal, or at least commonly accepted, explanations.

If we add every article about every atrocious stabbing, we will have a never ending list that will end up bigger than the total collective articles of SOTT!!! OK, maybe that is an exaggeration (or maybe not? yikes.), but I hope my point is clear. :)

Hi Jason, while I understand your reasoning, I think that all of the stabbings are noteworthy and should remain in the article. The thing that makes them noteworthy is not necessarily the number but that they all appeared in the MSM. Why did they appear in the press over those days and not others? There are signs that need to be read. These signs are not overt and can, if we choose, be ignored or rationalised away, but that would be missing the "Sign" that they constitute.

The point I think is this: Is it normal for there to be so many stabbings reported in the MSM within a 2-3 day period? If not, then it is, IMO, a veritable Sign of the Times.

This is true, and something I hadn't thought of. It did cross my mind, when the Guardian's archive had only 600 articles total, yet supposedly 50,000+ stabbings happen in London alone each year. Perhaps the more normal articles could be lumped and listed together, perhaps labelled as a related increase in MSM traffic regarding stabbings in conjunction with the super weird, also stabbing events.

The edit looks great btw, and I'm open to further changes. :)

I've wondered something for years and want to throw it out for thought. Perhaps a major reason "evil" deeds are being brought more to attention is that through technology the world is becoming a smaller place. News travels electronically fast nowadays, and with cellphones almost instantaneous. Whereas hundreds of years ago news traveled by foot or hoof. Making some "newsworthy" events probably unheard in distant places. Also, perhaps statistically the percentage population of "evil" deeds may grow slightly, the sheer number of incidents appear to grow dramatically because the number of people (population) is increasing, therefore the number of "evil" deeds rise, but as a percentage of population, I dunno? Is this clear as mud?

That thought also crossed my mind, but it is such a mind boggling equation, I'm not sure we will ever have an answer to it? (Re: Population growth combined with technological advancements vs. actual number of events being reported vs. actual number of past events in relation to present, and so on ;) )

The latest update to the article looks awesome, and appears to incorporate everyone's observations, all of which have been significant IMO. Thanks again to all involved.

This is a very interesting thread. There's definitely a rise in senseless violence, although I'm not sure that the increase
in stabbings is not related to the decreased availability of guns...especially in Europe and Australia?

Yes, people are going nuts, but I think they might just be using knives because they're easy to get these days?

I just read through the updated version and I saw the one that I had posted earlier in this thread.

This one happened in Minnesota at the end of April:

Stabbing suspect to get mental evaluation

Shane A. Hawkins' mental state should be evaluated over several days and not during a one-visit assessment, says the attorney representing the man charged with stabbing 17-year-old Jason Grau to death.

Hawkins, 30, is accused of killing Grau sometime around Feb. 22. Grau's body was found Feb. 24 along the northern bank of the Chippewa River in Chippewa Falls. Hawkins was arrested that same day.

Hawkins told investigators "the gods told him to (kill Grau)" and "friends in heaven" killed the Eau Claire boy, who was staying at Hawkins' apartment in Chippewa Falls. He also told investigators he planned to kill six people during the next year.

Ok, just for accuracy, this actually happened in Wisconsin, not Minnesota and it happened back in Feb, not in April. It may have been that there was some confusion due to the date/location of the article itself. News from western WI is often reported in the MN, twin cities area.

Also, I tried clicking on the original article I posted and it looks like the website (Twin Cities, Pioneer Press) has taken the story down from their website. There is another version of the same story here:

http://www.chippewa.com/news/local/article_2cac55fc-3c0d-11df-8810-001cc4c03286.html

Just to report, I thought that was only me, with a strange undefinable fog over my mind in this last week.
Going to sleep and waking very very tired. Strange thought loops and everything.
Now It seems to have passed.

Those stabbings, maybe they are aimed at killing people with potential?
Or just the targets that would generate the greatest amount of emotional distress over the parents and friends of the victim?

Opening news story this morning on the radio was that China was admitting the recent rash of violence against primary school children was the result of social stresses. While they continue to refer to most of the attacks as copy cat killings, I find it interesting the government is actually admitting there is something wrong with their society, something I never thought I would hear from the Chinese government. Usually they are looking for something external to blame, so it is interesting they would rather blame it on their own social tensions instead of pointing to an external demon like, oh, I don't know, perhaps mind control from the secret team?

Here's an online version of the news I heard this morning:

------------------
(From CBC _http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2010/05/14/china-killings-premier.html)

China's school killings blamed on social tension
A spate of recent killings at primary schools in China can be blamed on deep-seated social tensions, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao says.

The premier's comments, made Friday during an interview with Hong Kong's Phoenix Television, are the first official suggestion that the killings aren't simply the acts of deranged men.

Fifteen children have been killed and 80 others injured by men armed with cleavers, hammers or knives on five occasions since March.

Most recently, a 48-year-old disgruntled landlord killed seven children and wounded 11 others with a meat cleaver Wednesday at a kindergarten in Hanzhong, in northwestern China. He then went home and committed suicide, the local government reported.

Chinese media have portrayed the incidents as random killings committed by insane men.

But China also needs to take a good look at addressing the deep-seated causes behind the killings, including dealing with social conflicts and resolving disputes, Wen said.

Though the Communist Party has liked to say it's building a harmonious society, the country's rapid economic transformation has brought with it an enormous gulf between rich and poor. Corruption is also rampant, and people who seek justice through legal channels often don't find it.

Schools nationwide have increased security since the killings began, installing gates and security cameras. Some schools have also posted additional police and guards at entrances.

"Innovation in the management of society is not only essential but urgent," said Wu Heping, China's minister in charge of public security, the BBC reported.

"I have noticed the central government's demand for the public security bureaus, under the leadership of all levels of local government, to properly handle the various conflicts in society," Wu reportedly said.

Security measures aren't enough, Wen said, adding the government needs to "handle social problems, resolve disputes and strengthen mediation at the grassroots level."

Other killings

It was not clear if security had been beefed up at the school attacked Wednesday.

The assaults began with an attack on a primary school in March in the city of Nanping in Fujian province, where eight children were killed by a former medical worker with a history of mental health problems.

The man convicted for that crime was executed on April 28, the same day a 33-year-old former teacher broke into a primary school in the southern city of Leizhou in Guangdong province and wounded 15 students and a teacher with a knife.

The next day, a 47-year-old unemployed man armed with a knife wounded 29 kindergarten students — five seriously — plus two teachers and a security guard at a school in Jiangsu province.

Just hours later, a farmer hit five elementary students with a hammer in the eastern city of Weifang before setting himself on fire.

Death by knife and the letting of blood can be a symbol of ritual sacrifice. Multiple incidents of murder by stabbing suggests the triggering of vigilante programming. The combination suggests a bloody hand behind the scenes.

Thanks very much....things like this have happened in our home...but fortuantely no lasting damage...arguments in the '90s and up to maybe 2005 with no violence but with threats after which I got rid of all pocket knives and put all kitchen knives in concealed places at all times...in 2006, I watched as a very nonviolent friend stabbed himself with a new kitchen knife while we were making chicken soup, a deep gash and he looked down at his hand and had no idea how it happened.

I can get the date, but I was chatting with a friend/member within the last 2 weeks...around the time I became active on this Forum, someone in my home walked up to me while we were having not an argument but a loud disagreement, hit me on the back of the head with a blunt object, it hurt and was swollen for 2 days...he is not aggressive, has no "issues" we have not discussed openly and is not on any drugs/substances. He said he had no idea why he did it. Violence is not tolerated in my home, but I realized something else was going on, we talked and here we are now. I have a chill reading this, because I think we are all getting the same STS but not sure how...

We investigated the layout of our apartment, there are certain spots, or energy vortexes that seem to make "it" (whatever "it" is) worse...there is a line that goes from the porch to the dining area crosswise and another line from the kitchen to the hall.

Maintenance was here last week and reported that the apartment directly behind us (continuing on that line) had "holes punched in the walls and the door was torn in two." Maintenance was here to fix my door after it had been hit with a hammer, someone threw while standing on the vortex line...it was not me, and I did not get hurt...individual said they did not know why they did it.

All the arguments we have had in the past year have been on those lines or intersections of those lines. I asked max if he wants to move because it is time to renew, and he said, "I think we were placed here for a reason."

Hi, I'm curious about what you mean by the above? I think you might be misunderstanding the meaning of STS. We, as 3D human beings on planet Earth at this time, are all STS beings - Service to Self. If you've not yet had a chance to read the Wave, it clarifies a lot of these concepts. Another good resource is Cassiopedia.
