Any advice for my father?

Sincere condolences, may he rest in peace. Even when we know that life goes beyond our present incarnation, a separation is a separation and it hurts. Take care.
 
I offer my sympathies as well in this time l apprenti de forgeron. My Mimi passed from bone cancer a little over a year ago, and even though I know she was suffering and in pain, her passing was hard. Please do write a letter or light a candle as others have suggested. And don't forget that we are all here for you as well. Some days will be better than others. Give yourself the space and time you need to process your feelings. There is no timeframe for this process.

I hope you can take as much time off of work and responsiblities, and have people help you. It is good that you two were able to say goodbye. At my grandmother's funeral, I had the instinct to tell her at the casket that she could go now and that we could take care of ourselves. So if there is anything you feel like saying to him, go ahead. When your time comes, you might just see him in the light waiting for you.
 
My sincere condolences to you and your family. Though painful to loose someone, it appears that your father was ready and good that you had time to say goodbye.
