Athlete's Foot

Muxel, I just remembered another thing we do for feet. It's to use Tea-tree oil on the affected areas.
I'm thinking that if you used a combination of all these recommendations, something is going to work for you.

In my younger days all the swimming pools had a small pool of condy's crystals (potassium permanganate) that you had to walk through -in bare feet- before you could enter the pool to swim.
This stuff used to be recommended for snake bites as well, so it must be good, right?

My work schedule just got crazy but I'll try to soak my feet as often as I can. The one time I did it, I kept my foot in until all the purple had turned brown and my toenails were stained.

I really have to try rinsing my shoes with it!

Some of the stories of the older generation just blows my mind. It's like you lived on a completely different planet.

Now, what does young guy like me have to look forward to? Chlorine in the pools, bromine in bread, WiFi to slow-cook us, eking out our own survival by proving our usefulness to the machine of economy and industry.

What a rotten life.

For skin i use 1:1 cocoa butter:coconut oil mixture after washing. If shoes are ok and you don't have to work all day with wet feet, it should control fungal overgrowth. Also tea tree oil is very helpful.
For nails - i have little infection for years, was taking tablets for over a year - didn't work, most probably because of bad circulation - the drug don't get transported to feet/nails.
Iodine (topical and internal) doesn't work for neither skin/nails fungal infection, but it miraculously cured my warts (viral).

Thank you dear Laura for reminding of potassium permanganate, i will try it and report back.

There is also Castellani Paint. I think things like this, Gentian Violet and permanganate are rather aggressive, although they do work. Be careful and be aware of staining if you choose to use these. I can't advise on proper dilutions and treatment schedules.

I'm not even sure that potassium permanganate is easily available in the US as it is here at about any pharmacy. I think the US has gone firmly in the direction of pharmaceuticals and tries to discourage the older, cheaper remedies.

I've found potassium permanganate at Amazon (I live in the US). There are different sizes. And there are only a couple of sites that carry it and it ships from them, not Amazon. The following show two very different sizes by two different companies. I would guess that there is no difference in the quality between the two sizes.

Geeze, two pounds???!!! That's enough to dose a couple of olympic sized swimming pools for fish sicknesses!! The amount used like in a foot soak is about the size of half a lentil! I've never weighed the tiny dissolving pills but they are smaller than a tic-tac. So you sure don't need 2 pounds! 150 grams will last a Looooong time unless you are soaking the feet of a large army!

I was reading here in addition to bad smell, which i find easy to solve with dry socks and keeping feet dry, considering i sometimes do physicall work,

I have a toe nail fungus that's not fully gone, before one of the nails was almost broken, now much much better but still brownish, with lines and all.

When i was in full ketosis after one accident, i noticed it significantly improved, my ketosis strip level was on very high and the broken part desappeared as the nail grew out, but not completely. And have been on and off ketosis....

I wonder if potasium permanganate will help nail fungus, from what i'm reading it sounds promesing.

I don't know, if Athlete's foot is different than infection in the foot.
But anyway, when I was young, my father had infection in 4th toe, the smell was bad.
He tried every method that people suggested but sometimes later it reappeared again.

Finally Doctor cut off his one toe. I don't remember exactly but some time/or months/or years later the infection spread to foot and again Doctor wanted to cut off his foot.

One day stranger pass by and told him to soak in alcohol that have to be more than 80 proof.
So, his friend tied him in makeshift wooden bed and the infected foot is in bucket that filled with 80 proof clear color of drinking alcohol.

He was screamed and the next day I saw slime/pus that oozed out from his foot. The bucket changed each day until stayed clear.
It take him about three days and nights.
Finally he got completely cured from long suffering.
The alcohol have to be made from pure brewing method.

Potassium permanganate is used in a lot of things. For instance, as a water softener and I'm sure that that's what the larger quantity is for. I have no idea if I'd even need it, but it's always better to have something and not need it than to not have it and need it.

Thank you for the info on how little is used as I hadn't gotten that far in looking into it. :flowers:

Thanks for this, I have this problem right now. Odor and skin peeling off - more on one feet. I was suspecting candida had to do with it and will take action now. I have a question, is there anything I can do with the shoes? Spraying them (thinking in sodium bicarbonate or vinegar) and leaving them to dry, not wearing them for a few days?

Same here,

Although i've noticed that stress seems to be a factor. On days where i'm more stressed, the itchiness can become quite unbearable. But on weekends where i'm more relaxed, I barely noticed it. Which makes me wonder if perhaps the inflammation is also a contributing factor.

Also, and perhaps this is due to humidity, but it usually is never around during winter. Even when my feet get wet during snow storms and whatnot. However, during summer I notice it a lot more.

Thanks for sharing.

Can you take a close up image of the problem?

I have a question, is there anything I can do with the shoes?

Wash the shoes if they are washable. Then stuff them with a combination of wadded up newspaper and lots of mothballs. Put into a sealed bag. If it is very cold outside, leave them in garage for a month. If warmer, put them in the freezer for a month.
Remove from cold exposure, empty the stuffing and allow to air out for a week or so, preferably outside.

Just read the thread. IMO, potassium permanganate is a broad spectrum, all-purpose solution for soaking and curing foot issues - even kills toenail fungi - and spraying/rinsing shoes.

In Mexico costs 7.88 dollars per 100 grams and you need prescription.

http://www.livestrong.com/article/247213-medical-uses-for-potassium-permanganate/

"Skin Infections
Potassium permanganate treats many skin infections, including eczema, canker sores, dermatitis, acne, vaginal thrush and vulvovaginitis. When applying to small, wet wounds, only a small amount of a very dilute solution is necessary. Larger areas, such as infected eczema on large areas of your body, particularly in the presence of blisters, pus or oozing, may require treatment with potassium permanganate water baths. These baths must contain very dilute potassium permanganate solutions. This dilution is essential, as potassium permanganate crystals and concentrated solutions burn skin. Even dilute solutions can irritate skin and repeated use may cause burns"

Should I put like 1 teaspoon or more?

As Laura mentioned above, it should be a very small amount:

And from this site:
http://catalog.miniscience.com/Catalog/Potassium_Permanganate/Athletes_foot_Treatment.html
How to use Potassium Permanganate foot soak solution?

Prepare a 0.04% solution of Potassium Permanganate in water and soak your feet in that for about 15 minutes every morning and every afternoon for 2 to 3 weeks. Your feet will turn brown for several weeks, but when all is cleared up, the fungus should be gone.
